No power to roof AC

I tried a search on the subject and couldn't find any info.
Before I take the moho to an RV repair place, I'll ask the gurus out there what you all think.
I have a 28' with only one roof AC. It's the original Coleman with heat strip. After starting the generator, I attempted to make the AC work, but nothing happens. I took the ceiling cover off and the on-off switch cover off as well. Put a meter up there and no juice! All the components look nice and clean and new.
So where do I look to see if it's a simple fix?

Good 1st question.

2nd question; Did you overload your generator? (Are you getting 120V power to the rest of the trailer?)

There could be two different circuit breakers in the circuit. One at the generator itself. The second is likely to be a 30 amp single breaker box hidden somewhere in a closet or under a bed, etc. If either is tripped you won't have power to the A/c.

Do you have a factory service manual showing the layout of the 120vac wiring system? If there is a separate 30 amp breaker it will likely be shown on one of the pages in manual.

Good luck!

Brad

Does the 28 have a control switch(dial-type) for the various big-draw items(AC, Microwave)?

I read the owner's manual and found the circuit breaker in the bathroom closet where the central vacuum is located. All the breakers were on, but I turned all off, then on again to make sure. Still doesn't work the AC. There are only two fuses at the generator, one says "IGN", so I think they pertain to 12V only. This will be intereseting to find out why no juice to the AC with GENSET on.
This 28' model does not have the manual control switches for AC, microwave, I bet because it only has the one roof AC.

You need to go back to basics. You should have an automatic transfer switch to change from AC cord to generator supply. Do you have 120 volts if the 30 amp cord is plugged in? Also is there 120 volts at the outlets in the coach? Now when you disconnect the cord and start the generator do you have 120 volts at the outlets? If not pull the cover off the breaker box in the closet and check for 120 volts. If no voltage at the box go to the box in the aft under-body compartment where the 30 Amp cord is connected. This is where the transfer switch is located. If you can identify where you have 120 volts and where you don't then you can look for a fix.

on his 28' model (since it is a 79 build) the transfer switch does not exist. Instead you plug your 30 amp shore plug in a receptacle in the cord department to use the Generator power. Was it plugged into that receptacle, Astro?

The coach electrical cord is plugged into the recepticle (which is generator supplied 110V power when plugged in).
I disconnected it and plugged it into shore power with an adapter, but all I hear is a slight hum at the roof AC.
I think I'll take it in to a pro to repair it, as I think it could be something internal to the Ac. All the recepticles work with either Genset or shore power.

Whenever we get that hum on the 310 ac units it usually turns out to mud dauber nests gumming things up.

We had the "hum" at our rear a/c unit when we bought it. When I got on the roof and took the cover off, found that a piece of foam rubber that was supposed to seal the cover to the fan housing had gotten sucked into the fan and kept it from turning. Pulled it out, and now she runs...
