Newbie in GA
Hello all,
I recently acquired a 1981 Excella motorhome that has an Isuzu "6BD1T" turbo diesel. Any suggestions on where to find engine parts? For instance, the starter motor. You can find new aftermarket starters for later year engines here:
Starter, Denso, Chevrolet, GMC, Isuzu EVR, FSR, FTR, FVR, NRR
It looks identical to the one on my 1981 engine, but they say it is for 1984 engines onward. Anyone know if it fits earlier ones?

Your Isuzu is considered an industrial engine not a highway engine. It is also long out of production so many outfits will have no idea what you are talking about. That being said many of the parts are the same but the highway and industrial divisions don't talk to each other and they use different part numbers.
I use, Hamilton Engine Sales
5540 N.E. Columbia Blvd.
Portland, Oregon 97218 Craig (503) 280-1353
Craig knows more about these old engines than anybody I have found. They used these engines in commercial boats so also look for engine repair in the commercial side of major seaports.
For your starter I would look for a good auto electric shop and have it rebuilt. Talk to the heavy duty truck shops for recommendations.
Congratulations on your new coach and good luck.

Welcome to the forum. There is quite a motorhome contingent here and a lot of good information seems to be shared on that side of the house.

All,
Many thanks for the welcome and the info. I'll be attempting to bring the old Excella back to life over the next year or so. It's been sitting in a private junk yard for at least five years, so it needs lots of work. But there is something about these aluminum AS coaches. Does anyone know how many were made?
