Need Switch for Step - '82 Excella Mh

Seeking source for OEM (or equal)step switch (located in door frame). If anyone knows of one, please advise.

As the OEM switch has probably long been unavailable, advise amp rating an improvised momentary pushbutton switch (normally on) would need to be...

The service manual does not state the fuse rating - nor the location of the inline fuse (inquired about the location in a separate thread)

9269 is shown to be a normally open switch (i.e., when button not depressed, contacts are open).

The service manual for my 28' 82 Excella describes the switch operation, when door is opened, as completing circuit to open vacuum solenoid/ dump vacuum/drop step. Unless I have misinterpreted the manual, it appears I would need a normally closed switch, 9050-1 (i.e., when door is open/ button not depressed, switch contacts are closed, sending current to vac solenoid).

Advise if I am missing something....

Incidentally, the fuse, a 10 amp, is NOT in line. Upon further searching, I found that is on the chassis fuse block, top left/yellow wire. The fuse block is on the bulkhead/right of steering column - NOT easy to access!!

When I ordered the switch from Airstream years ago they sent the wrong switch so I guess they used both depending on the vacuum solenoid used. If I remember correctly vacuum holds the step in so pushing the button in would close the circuit activating the solenoid allowing vacuum to pull the step in.

If you look at the switch there should be a number next to the button. You also can pull the switch and with the engine running touch the wires together to see what the step does. And yes the fuse block is a real joy.

The switch can be a pain. If the door hinge is sloppy the switch can operate unexpectedly. Mine has a shim in the jamb to increase the button travel. I also suspect as the switch wears the point of operation vs. button travel may change.

My 345 uses the same switch on an electric step. When I bought a new motor drive it came with a magnetic switch. I haven't changed it yet but it might be an option depending on how sensitive it is. Good luck

I did the latter and confirmed that when wired directly with the engine running, the step retracts. So - I will order the switch you advised in your first post.
