Mystery current drain on coach battery

Thank you AZtraveler, I am holding off researching the mystery current drain right now, while I look into pulling out the blown engine. Once the engine is off being rebuilt, I will turn my attention back to this problem.

That is amazing that something as innocuous as a speaker could cause such grief, but then as I am learning, anything is possible with these babies!

Hi friends:

After much soul searching and balance checking, I (think I) have decoded to get my existing engine rebuilt by a local guy here in town. this way I (currently) feel I have a little more control over what parts are used, and get some more feedback as to what caused these problems originally (age, misuse, sun in Capricorn, etc.)

The mechanic who gladly took my money (inlet gasket, oil cooler leak, etc.) has now decided to leave the shop so there goes that possible recourse, but I hope to hear back from the PO about some sort of compensation. We shall see...

So tomorrow I start the process of removing the blown 454 lump, keep them crossed and please try to stay near your computer, I suspect I'm going to need a lot of advice!

Bummer with the engine noise. Sounds like rod/bearing trouble.... But, until it's diagnosed by a good mechanic there's always hope that it's something simple. There were some posts recently about replacing the gas motor with a new diesel. An expensive proposition but it might be worth it. If you're getting in as deep as a full engine rebuild (or replace) then the additional cost might make it worth doing now. Compared to the price of a new diesel motor home it's a bargin.

So what did you decide? I was searching the MOHO forums and came across your dillema.
Here's an option we'd all love to have...I'm not sure about gas mileage though... (737 Dirty Harry )

It's usually pretty close in price to rebuild or replace with a crate motor. Crate motors are brand new with a warranty and even worse... Str8stream says a 502 bolts right in.

I'm glad your fixing it. I'm sure once you getted sorted out you'll be glad you did.
