Some of the numbers posted are the Chevrolet VIN# portion and not the Airstream number.
You should be able to find both, but the chassis vin # is irrelevant to this listing.
My chassis nmo. is on the plate under the hood as mentioned above, and in the bedroom closet on a sticker...the Airstream # is listed, as well as on the aluminum plate on the upright under the hood.

One interesting I learned by entering the all of the airstream numbers based on the link provided on page 2 of this thread is that my title states year 1984 but the airstream model year is 1985.

I wonder???
In looking at the numbers, I wonder if all units (trailers & MH) produced fall into AS production serial numbers we are using? Based upon the original assumption discussed, it would appear that over 220 MH were produced in 1979...which I highly doubt (I had heard something like one per week somewhere, perhaps I'm wrong).
Anyone,???

A VIN Translator
I was inspired by this thread and decided to create a little .NET web application called the "Airstream VIN Translator". It will translate the Airstream VIN for your MH or Trailer (1982 or newer) for you. Just enter in your number and click the "Translate" button.
You can try it out at: http://216.26.139.91/AirstreamVIN/AirstreamVIN.aspx
I translated mine and except for the bath configuration it's pretty accurate:
1A9BGAU3XGJ010705 Translates to:
Mfg, Make, Type: Airstream Class A Motorhome
Type: Corner Bath, Modern Design *10/1/01
Series: Motorhome, Front Gasoline Engine, Chevy
Body Type: Semi-monocoque, 96" narrow body, continuous curved, shiny aluminum Shell, contoured window glass, fames and doors
Length: 34’ to less than 35’
Axle Configuration: Triple Axle
Check Digit: X
Model Year: 1986
Site of Manufacturer: Jackson Center, Ohio
Sequential Number: 010705
Try it out....it's fun!

My Cousin VINnie
Steven:
I tried but the fields do not accept my VIN M249RV5181. I suppose it is designed for more recent VIN assignments?

A/S MH ID's
Nice tool, I put my numbers in, and got:
Mfg, Make, Type: Airstream Class A Motorhome
Type: Corner Rear Bath (Mine is a center -midship- bath)
Series: Motorhome, Front Gasoline Engine, Chevy
Body Type: Semi-monocoque, 96" narrow body, continuous curved, shiny aluminum Shell, contoured window glass, fames and doors
Length: 34’ to less than 35’
Axle Configuration: Triple Axle
Check Digit: 5
Model Year: 1985
Site of Manufacturer: Jackson Center, Ohio
Sequential Number: 010567
The only other difference that I've seen from some other 345's, is that my overhead storage doors are oak, Vs the roll-ups... The one roll-up in mine is in the back cap overhead storage area in the (cracked) interior shell.
It also appears that the unit -originally- had a Koehler generator, but there's an Onan Emerald in it now.
Thanks for the info-tool!

Molly (wife) and I purchased eBay item #2484082008, a 1988 airstream mh. 29 ft. Our production # is 10994-- a little older than yours MrGoate. By the way thanks for the email you sent and I failed to respond to ( still learning how to use this rather stupid computer). You are right though, the 29 footer is probably the perfect layout for two people. NEVER DREAMED WE WOULD FIND ONE FOR THAT PRICE!!
