There is a sticker on the Dupli Color can that actually says "replaces T183." Soooo, fwiw, there ya go. Haven't used it yet, still in prep. The cap looks right though when held against the paint.

Thanks for the update, curious how it works out!

Also use the prep spray to clean the surface and if painting plastic like your dashboard or your mirrors, etc., also use the adhesion spray. One of them is extremely bad to breath. Use a filter mask or you will pass out! I have also sprayed over with their clear and still looks good some years later (even after 115 degree summers).

Mayco, Is that the Dupli-color BGM 0534 Mica Gray that Advance Auto is carrying. Looks pretty dang close. My parts stores have one can so I am waiting for them to order more so I can repair and paint my passenger banana wrap and other trim. Thanks for the pics.

Mike, looks nice
It's amazing how the small stuff can really make a difference in the overall looks.

I'm kicking around the idea of adding an after market intermittent windshield wiper control on my '82. Scares me to even think about getting behind there and doing any mods but.....sure would be nice, at least on the drivers side. Right now there are two switches controlling the wipers, two speed switches.
In a few minutes of looking I found several on the internet. Looks like a couple different options. One where the existing switch is used and a control unit is added behind the dash. The other kind replaces the switch with a new one with the controls built into the switch itself.
Have any of you had any experience with an after market add on like this?

Had a Zemco unit decades ago. Worked well. Cheap enough NOS units pop up on Ebay all the time..... keep it period! [emoji3]

Mike, this is the switch you want to use. 2-speed wiper control model 311-1026. It controls both wipers and is variable speed. It also acts as a pushbutton to control the washer pump.
I think it was Smartstream that pointed this one out to me several years ago. It wasn't all that difficult to install.

I wonder what brand the OEM unit is? Since the dash controls are cobbled together with different manufacturers I have no idea. From what I'm seeing online, this retrofit is pretty common in the classic car world, converting from a two speed switch to a control that includes the intermittent function. I haven't pulled the wiper switch out yet to see if there are any markings on it. I know it looks easy and straight forward to remove the switch but as we all know, if you touch one thing (especially behind that dash cover) it can lead to the road to hell.
So before I dig in, I was wondering if anyone has actually done it before or does anyone know if the OEM switch is GM or Dodge or some other manufacturer. It looks like it may affect the choice of which model replacement switch to purchase. The replacement units that I'm seeing don't look like they would affect the looks of the original switch.
Obviously this isn't a big deal but if I found a retro fit unit that's reasonably priced and easy enough to install, might be something to consider for our lot here. The idea stems from a two hour drive the other night in a light mist, I was reaching down to turn the wiper switch on and off every 30 seconds or so. Just a modern convenience that would be nice to have.

There goes Brad with that memory again. That is the switch, I assume Brad has the correct part number. The only concern is the dynamic or coast to park. There is an explanation of the difference on the AM site. AM Equipment is an OEM supplier so there is a good chance they supplied the original switches to GM.
The later Airstreams used some kind of module on the wipers but the '82 wiper motors were just wired to the switch.
That switch was really a great improvement to the wiper system.

I've installed the switch I posted in the link in my Argosy, It's easy to install. Each wiper has 3 wires that connect to the switch. The washer system has one wire. There is a ground wire to the switch and a +12 power feed to the switch. That's it.

That is a great web site, includes a good glossary of terms about wiper systems.

Coast to park. I don't think the motors are equipped for dynamic parking.

The motor gearbox is either dynamic park or coast to park. You have to determine which type you have and buy the switch for that type.
As Mayco said there is an enormous amount of info on the AM site. They go through the differences on how they work. I read it years ago but have long since forgotten most of what I learned.

And looking at the switch you selected, you wired both wipers to one switch correct? Do you remember if the switch came with wiring instructions or are the wires marked in any way other than color coded

Will this new switch help with getting both wipers going the same way and not DS going one way and PS going the other or are the motors going down the tubes. This would be a happy day if it will make them normal.
