I got an airstream!
After looking at a couple locally, we drove down to Florida about 3 weeks ago to look at ronafournier's 1983 310. Last weekend we flew down and drove it home. It's in great shape, the trip home went off without a hitch (other than rewiring the toad lighting cable, no biggie), and we're super excited.
Previous owners took great care of it. It has:
•New 454 with 6000 miles on it, still under warranty for 6 months (we put 1000 of those on it on the trip home)
•New associated engine bay parts (pumps, belts, etc.)
•New rubber fuel lines
•Supersteer steering and steer-safe stabilizer
•GV overdrive (Works great, took some nice straight flat stretches at 75mph. Will be super nice crossing the plains states.)
•Rear tires less than 3 years old, fronts 6 months old
•Dash AC converted to R134a and works great
•New 6 gal water heater
•New air conditioners front and rear
•New fridge
•New backup/dash cam
•Full Blue Ox tow setup for the 2000 Jeep Wrangler that came with it (also in great shape)
•New kitchen sink/water filter
•New drawer slides and rust free drawers
•New vent fans and fantastic fan
•All the window coverings have been steam cleaned and are in great shape
•Carpet is a few years old but in great shape
•New TV antenna on the roof (plan to replace with 4G antenna)
•No leaks (that I've found yet, been looking)
•All the internal lights converted to LED
Needs (in order of most important to least important):
•Radio
•I need to find out why there is water in the water pump area. Darn winter. Shoulda totally winterized the lines in a Walmart parking lot in Atlanta. I think it's just one of the low point drains froze. Oh well.
•Managed to get a rock chip in BOTH driver AND passenger side windshields on the way home. They are small, hopefully seal-able.
•Couch needs recovered
•Cockpit seats need recovered
•Retractable antenna was electric, doesn't work, bummer, but we will probably put a fixed 4G antenna/booster on the roof
•Spare tire cover cracked as usual
•Came with window gaskets/weepers/seals/piling, need to get around to that
•Airbag switch currently located in the battery compartment, should relocate to dash
•Could use polished, clearcoat rough, especially on the drivers side
•Door is annoying to shut, but it was worked over at the mothership, so it seals well.
•Generator runs rough, especially when cold, first step is to clean the carb, but it got the job done
•Speedometer gauge broken
•Heater fan squeaks.
•If possible, I would like to upgrade from 40 gallon to a larger tank or add an aux tank. Filling up every 150-200 miles will get old. Yes, I technically have 280 mile range, but I don't like getting below a quarter.
•Emergency brake needs fixed
As I posted in the past, we plan to full time out of it. Didn't see any reason to pay rent longer than necessary, so I told the landlord we'd be out by the end of the month.
The 310 came with a lot of stuff, a lot of which is now for sale. No reasonable offer refused, whatever doesn't sell, the irreplaceable bits will be stored, what I don't have room to store will be scrapped.
Up for grabs:
The original stand-up tables for the couch and chrome poles. I have no use for these.
4 of the brown plastic storage bins. In meh shape, bit cracked at the corners. I want these gone.
Flip up thing that goes at the foot of the bed. Great shape, I don't need it.
The original radio/cassette player. No idea if they work.
Intake manifold
Exhaust manifolds
Air cleaner cover with all the emissions stickers. manf'd in 1982 stamped on it. Think Steve might want this.
Original R12 engine AC pump
Original(?) metal blinds from above the sink.
Original sink and some plumbing
I think there's more, can't remember. Pics to follow, of both airstream and stuff up for grabs.
