Kwikee Step

I have a 1987 325 Airstream Motorhome

CampWorld have replaced a broken with a brand new kwikee step and here is what happened :

Every time I open my door the steps will extend out and when I close the door the steps retracts.

I have a step switch that is not working.
My step light is not working either.

Any helpful advise will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like CampWorld didn't exactly do a good job.

Hopefully you received an installation/operations manual with your steps. If not the manuals can be downloaded online. The manual will show how the switches are supposed to be wired.

Peter - have a look on the Kwikee site. Establish the correct replacement board for your step and see if they installed the correct board part. Once you have that number, contact Kwikee (who are usually v good) and ask them whether the door jamb and switch have to be replaced at the same time. I replaced all three items on my steps. I think that the step switch and door jamb usually need to be replaced along with the main board because (from memory) the polarity was different. If they didnít replace those bits (which are cheap) then they probably did half a job.
Btw - I assume you mean that if you are camping and want to switch the step to perm down, that isnít working when you shut the main door.

Another great example of another company making money by mistake. Why donít you bring it back and have them fix it the way it should be ?

Kwikee Step

Airstream really messed up the factory installation on my 360. Started with the wrong magnetic switch in the door jam. Itís confusing! Normally open magnet present or away.

To resolve the problem of the step going up door open and down door closed they, Airstream, cut and reversed the wires to the motor. All the safety features were negated. Including the light. Put the correct magnetic switch and my new step worked correctly.

Never assume Airstream did anything correctly and you wonít be disappointed.

The old step got beat to death because it didnít auto retract door closed and in gear.
