It's cold, the anti-freeze is frozen!

It is 7 degrees F here in New Hampshire and the antifreeze is frozen!

I'd say that is sufficient evidence to move south, but that's just me.

Is it a brick, or shush? My understanding is it doesn't freeze solid till the stated temp.

The tires are the best way to heat an Airstream.

Key West 78 right now, with 68 for a low this week.......

It's cold here too!
I'm thinking of putting on a sweatshirt when going outside.

Pete.

I'd contact the company and if you do, post what they respond with. I can't read the bottle, but does it say where it's manufactured? If China I am not surprised at all as I used to use Chinese manufactured products "to our specs" when I was GM at a company and we had to have engineers to check every shipment as they change the specs often to what they want to make.

Well dang! Hope you didn’t put any of that into your car/truck/motorhome/etc. On a more serious note: thank you for reminding all of us to double check where and when the anti-freeze made. Always buy the best you can afford is what my dad used to say but nowadays spending more money on stuff doesn’t always mean it’s the best.

It is like a block of solid with some liquid. I think that it would
be OK to protect piping and tanks from splitting. But it would not work
if you wanted anything to flow like in an engine cooling system.

With the wonderful NE weather I think I will do a test.
I have 1/2 a jug of Super Tech brand RV antifreeze that is claimed to be made in the USA and the jug says it is good to -50F
Last night it was -3 and I expect similar tonight.
We will see!

What does the label say? This says safe to -50F:

https://www.amazon.com/Winter-eez-Ma.../dp/B001G2PDRG

Yes the stuff turns to slush at first.

The question is not whether it freezes. It's whether it expands when frozen.

To test that, one would need a full jug, and maybe top it off to the cap with more AF.
Then take something like masking tape that does not stretch and wrap it around the jug. then do the freeze test and see if the tape or jug splits

Yep, or just set a brand new one outside with sealed lid overnight to see what happens.

When we had the RV park in Angel Fire (ski area), we saw that pretty commonly. Folks would bring the stuff and be amazed. (Those same people were under the impression that just adding some to their black/gray tanks was going to make a difference. It didn't. The tanks usually survived, but the exposed pipes still froze solid, often with damage.)

It's designed to freeze but not expand.

Yeah, it's a wee bit chilly outside right now.

The Mistress is in deep hibernation with my making sure her batteries are in +50% mode.

I use automotive coolant straight in the toilet and -45 windshield fluid in the traps.

Cheers
Tony

It was -5 last night and my 1/2 jug of -50 RV AF is frozen solid.
So I would say that if it is frozen solid at -5 then -50 on the label is false advertising!

I cant tell if there is any swelling of the jug.
Even if it does not expand, frozen solid AF will give you problems with operating valves or the water pump. I bet if you tried to flex a plastic water line, you may crack it?
