Was just about to write a check for insurance on the 'Silver Bullet' when I noticed it's 20% more that last year. Any other companies besides Foremost I can turn to?

We got ours through AAA, but it's really through progressive. Can't say anything else about them though, because I haven't had to deal with a claim yet. But they were the only ones I could find to do an 'agree upon value' policy for our vintage trailer.

We're using progressive as well... No claims experience - but the rate is competitive.

If you have served in the military check out USAA - I've had all my insurance with them for years - the rates are decent and the claims service is FAST and decent.

Ditto the feeling about USAA - and you no longer have to have been a military officer to join this mutual company.

We have Progressive and our latest bill for the truck and the SUV went up almost 20%. All those commercials with "Flo" must cost a lot.

We have State Farm Insurance (mainly because RustyRivet is a SF agent so go figure why we have that insurance). But our ins went down.

My insurance is with Foremost also. I thought the increase was due to my recent move to tornado ridden Tennessee. I guess I'll have to shop around before renewal time.

We are insured with Home State County Mutual Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Safeco, in Dallas. We have the King Ranch, 740iL and the Sovereign ($40,000 replacement value) fully insured, with a $250 deductible on each vehicle, for $206/mo.

Most auto insurers have an RV component... Ours is with Progressive as many others here are, apparently...there's also GEICO and Good Sam of course, to name few others. Show around but be sure to compare oranges to oranges...coverage, replacement values, etc...

We were with GEICO for eight years and never once had a problem with them. The only reason we went with Safeco was because they would give us the coverage we wanted, with a guaranteed replacement value, no questions asked.

GEICO would not do that, given the age of our Sovereign. The GEICO person kept saying, "Mr. Lynes, You can keep telling me that your trailer is an Airstream and that it's worth $22,500 (the price I paid for the trailer and restoration), but I don't know what an Airstream is. The fact is your trailer is 35 years old (this was in '06). It's not worth it for us to fully insure a vehicle that old, and besides recreational vehicles don't hold their value, especially one as old as yours." (He used the word "old" a lot)

It's at that point that I have to laugh at myself and anyone who says, "I own an Airstream", assuming people know what the hell you're talking about, and then you have Joe Blow working at GEICO who says, "WTF is an Airstream, and why do I care....it's still 37 years old and I'm not going to insure it!"

Humble pie at its finest indeed.

These guys know what a Airstream is and if your a WBCCI member you get a additional discount.

We haven't filed any claims but when you talk with them they know what your talking about. I got quotes from 4 different companies for our 1998 Excella and they where the cheapest. (AAA, Progressive, Farmers Insurance) We pay less then $250 a year.

Damon: I just got off the phone with your carrier. Their quote was double the rate as my current cost with USAA.However. I do believe that their coverage is more comprehensive than USAA. woppa4

On vintage trailers USAA partners with Progressive, GMAC insurance has skyrocked in cost.

We've been with USAA for nearly 25 years now and absolutely love that company. We had one claim with them and took care of everything.

Couple things to keep in mind. They are not nearly as cheap as they used to be. 20 years ago, they had the best rates around as well as great service. Not so any longer.

Also, USAA will NOT write an "agreed value" policy on an RV. The one exception to that rule is that if you have a combination "antique" TV and RV, they will add it to the TV coverage. I don't remember all the details, but they farm that coverage out to somebody else and they simply service the account.

I can't find an agent in Oklahoma.

My home/auto insurance (Liberty Mutual) don't write for anything older than '89
Travelers don't write MH in Oklahoma without other insurance.

I'm not retired from the Army (I was drafted), so not eligible for USAA.

Progressive is $40 cheaper

AAA looks to be half the price I'm paying now.

Think I'll switch to AAA.

We originally added the Airstream to our Safeco Policy which was in force for our vehicles. After the rebuild was completed, according to our agent here in Los Angeles, Safeco would not give us an "agreed on" value. So we went with Progressive. We had to document the rebuild with receipts, photos, and a professional appraisal (from Silverpal here on the forums). This policy costs more than we were paying with Safeco but we have a bigger investment that we need to insure.

Also, the fact that we store in an indoor secure RV storage facility reduced the premium by a little bit...

Having a "Vintage" trailer has issues with being able to prove the value....it is not in anyone's Blue Book and you need to make sure it is insured with a company that doesn't just consider it a "40 year old trailer." I checked Geico last year and they would not give us an "agreed on" value policy. However, with the economy being what it is, things may be in flux at many insurance companies. We can attest to the fact that when we were broadsided in Dec 2007, we received a very fair settlement from Foremost which was the other person's insurance company.
