I live in an ORPHAN!!!

Yes, I am a fulltimer and workamper. I am single so my 270 Excella is OK. BUT... I sure would like to have the privacy of a rear bedroom. I have a rear bath with a couch across from the gally and another couch across from a booth in the lounge area. After three years of folding couch/bed I removed it and put in a single high$ pillow top mattress across from galley. I even took the booth apart and exchanged it with the co-pilot seat. Did not last long and put the booth back together.

OH YEA the Orphan part.....I see a lot about classics here but haven't seen anything on the 270. Best I can find only 250 of this model over a 3year period...1983,4,and 5. Mine is number 188 built in early 1984 with an 1983 p30 chassis.

I would really like to find an old 16' Bambi to turn into a garage for my motorcycle. I now CARRY it side ways on the back of my moho.

I know what you mean about the bed. I hate making the bed up and down every single flippin day! But.... it still beats a Motel 6.....

Welcome to the forums. I always wondered what full timing would be like in my 280, yours is a foot shorter. All of us who own the classic MH are orphans of sort. Rarely do you ever see another one driving down the road much less happen upon one in a campground. As the years go by they get more rare. I have seen pictures now of three wrecked 280 Turbo Diesels and I know of two others that are still running. We need to love keeping history alive to keep these things up and running.

Found an 81 Diesel MH in rural Oklahoma. It's a 280 and has a sign on it for $7,000.00. Not interested in it myself since I know nothing about diesel, but I can get the information on it if anyone is interested.

Have you visited this website yet? www.airstreammotorhomes.com It's run by a member here and is THE resource for classic MoHo's and Fred has three 270 examples listed on the site (http://www.airstreammotorhomes.com/M_270.html)

Since the shorter mohos tend to be worth something due to demand have you considered "upgrading" (err....sidegrading?) to a 310, 325 or 345? They typically have a dedicated rear bedroom.

I would say yes get the details and post it in the classifieds. If it is worth saving someone will pick it up. The sad thing would be to have one of these beauties go to the scrap heap when they still have life.

What kind of motorcycle do you have? Can you share any more info about how you carry it? Is it hard to load up the bike?

My motorcycle is a BMW F650 dual sport - I like to head into Wyoming and ride on the dirt roads used by the ranchers, or NFS roads in the mountains. It weighs about 450 pounds, maybe a little much to load on a the back of a motorhome.

I have an Airstream trailer, so I have to choose between pulling the ttravel trailer or the motorccyle trailer. The motorhome is a definite plus when it comes to taking along big toys on a trip.

My husband is taking pictures of this MH and I will post them. I'll also try to get a picture of the "For Sale" sign with the seller's information. Whip, you only thought you had / are in an orphan!! The MoHo that Juel found is one of a kind for sure.
I go down the road almost every day in my 28' former Funeral Coach. Do you work from your 270? Can we be nosey and ask what you do?
How far, if at all, do you roam?
I get to cover all of SC, NC, parts of GA and FL.
Tonight from a rather noisy Wal-Mart in Aberdeen (Pinehurst) NC.

Juel, Thanks, I think. I wonder if they put the engine in the rear. There are no vents or grill in the front and a diesel needs lots of air to operate. What is that canister hanging on the back left bumper?
I would love to hear the history of this creation.

Try to answer your Questions

1st.....my motorcycle is a 1995 Honda Shadow 1100 ACE, It is carried on a carrier fitted to a class 4 hitch welded to the frame rails. The carrier was custom made by RG Fabrication out of Ohio. Found them on ebay. My bikes curb weight is 575 lbs.
2nd.....I have put about 11,000 miles on my moho since aquisition in oct 02. Started in soutwestern Virginia mountains and been to Fl, Tx, SD, Mo, Fl again, Tx, Az, Nv, and back to Tx. I have moved 3 times in Tx and plan to go to Ar or Mo next summer.
3rd.....As for work (oops a four letter word) as little as possible, I am workamping at the RV Resort I am staying at for free use of the park, its amenities and all utilities, plus a pay check. During the holiday season of Thanksgiving and Christmas I wear a red suit and sit at a mall all day long.
4th..... As for swaping for a 310 or another....sure do you know of anyone that wants to trade? Any time I see a larger AS moho the owner doesnt want to go smaller .
I think that covers all the questions, if not I will try again later.

Alan, that's a cool photo. Looks like an old Dodge p/u. Makes you wonder just how much wind that nose is pushing as he goes down the road? Gotta slow you down....and likely never passes a gas station.

I think the air thingy is that big white thing on the top. I have no idea what the cylinder is on the bumper. Don't really know much about deisels, but seem to remember they need a dryer or breather or something like that. Tried to look up something about this maker who seems to be in Minn. from the big plaque on the back, but can find nothing about them. Mystery I guess.
