Holy Cr*p! $945 VLT for 81 vehicle registration in AZ
If I'm doing the math right it could cost us $945.4x in VLT to register the Excella 280 in AZ (year one). And that is just the VLT. I've seen $54523 listed as the original base price twice now and AZ takes 60% of that to determine VLT (see below). I'm amazed it could cost tht much for a 1981 vehicle. Good thing the Idaho temp plate (cost $7.75) doesn't expire for 30 days.
"The VLT is based on an assessed value of 60% of the manufacturer's base retail price reduced by 16.25% for each year since the vehicle was first registered in Arizona (15% before 8/1/98). Then, as of the Dec 1, 2000 reduction, the rate is calculated as $2.80 (new vehicles)/$2.89 (used vehicles) for each $100 of the assessed value."
Maybe accessed value is the way out of giving AZ $1K.

Those numbers don't make sense, I imported my 1999 Bambi to Arizona in 2006 from New York state, as I recall the total cost to transfer title and register it here was less then $ 100. My current registration for it is for 2 years and has $ 92.54 VLT, $ 8.00 registration, and .39 Postage/Handling

ken,
man, i feel your pain. we also just registered our 2005 22' which we brought back from MA.
the nice lady at the MVD pulled out her huge book of original trailer values and dinged us for about $500.
and guess what - there was absolutely NO inspection other than an guy measured the length and did a walk-around.
they did not check the running lights, brake lights, turn signal or
see if the trailer was evewn hooked up properly. sorta scary!

Well worth the hold time...
After spending half an hour on hold (got a busy signal all day Monday) the very nice Anita looked it up in their big book, confirmed the original base price and said "seeing as how it is so old, we can't reduce the VLT fee any lower than $10.00". My total registration fees should be about $24.00. Only $20.00 next year as we already paid the title fee. It turns out they do reduce it by 16.25% each year. It seems I misunderstood the "since the vehicle was first registered in Arizona" part. To be continued...

There's no way you'll pay that much for your MH. In 2004 I had to pay $600 for my 2003 Excursion (it was worth about $45k new). I'm now paying about $290, still too much, but I just don't see them hammering you that much. As an FYI, for two years, my 1972 Airstream costs $26 for the VLT.

Time to move to New Mexico! We were able to purchase a permanent license for our 30' for a couple of hundred bucks. (I think it was that much. Could have been less. Somebody will probably jump in and correct me.)

Go West Young Man...
You should investigate why so many large RVs are carrying Montana plates. Lets not screw up a good deal here.

I guess I shouldn't complain too much. In Ontario, Canada once you pay the flat $35 for a trailer at registration you are licensed forever.

I bought my classic in the same state so only concerned with annual tag fee. i recently paid the $271 yearly registration on my '85 345 which sucks cos its more than all the other tag-able stuff in my yard put together.
georgia, on my mind- right out my pocket!
sonny purdue coming to my work tomorrow btw, boss says we have to be there 'extra' early. dont know which sucks more!!!
