Henschen Tag Axle
I have a service manual for the tag axle air bag system. This describes the operation, lists all of the components with part numbers and has an air flow schematic diagram. Very useful for trouble shooting and service. On my trip to Alaska I had the right side tag axle fail, destroying the tire and dropping the axle and brake to within 3 inches above the ground. I rigged up a quick fix and drove 5000 miles till I was able to get it fixed. I will be happy to provide any info on the tag axle including quick fix hints and axle operation.

Hello Howard,
Do you know where I can get a manual for the tag? I have an '88 345 and the bags are shot. CW says they don't do that sort of work so I am in a bit of a quandary on where to go now.

The above post is the only Manual I know of. The air bags are listed under the 1990 345 Motorhome thread. Changing the bags took a professional 7 hours and he had a pit in the garage. They are a bit of a pain since usually all of the air lines and fittings have to be replaced. You should also check your air tank to make sure it does not have any holes. If you have not regularly let the water out of the tank you will have developed rust holes. These can be fixed by a really good spot welder. I used a truck repair shop that specialized in springs, shocks and bags for everything from dump trucks to 18 wheelers. They had never done a Motor Home but they had no problems and all of the parts needed. I supplied the bags and specialized Henshen stuff. It cost me $130 and it was well worth it.

You should consider yourself lucky that they don't!!!
Try any large truck repair shop. A lot of over-the-road rigs use air bag suspensions and they should be very familiar with the set-up.

Just discovered the right rear tag shock is leaking on my 89 / 90 345 LE.
Need to replace the pair - can anyone recommend the best brand or how to even determine the correct application ?
Appreciate the advice.

They are the same as the trailer shocks.

See if you can find a set of Bilstein shocks as replacements. They are used on most of the big, air bag suspended MoHos and have a lifetime warranty. I have used them on every vehicle I have owned since 1986.
I have a set waiting to go onto my '04 Sprinter as we speak!
