It was a design screw-up that was changed on the '83. Problems happened to Smartstream & Tin Crumpet and gawwd knows who else. Ours is bolted on the bottom with a vent panel that folds down with two latches. All I could suggest is a bone yard, or a top-notch fabricator. As far as I know, the upper vent panel was not made for anything else, but, who knows?

Did the latch fail and the whole assembly fall and self-destruct whilst crusing down the road?

Since none of us have a clue how many of our coaches were built, and what parts fitted what year, the "winter work" we all need to do is check boneyards and backyards for some of these coaches. There's one in WA State that had a blown 454, the old far (guy) would not sell it because he and his wife (dead) had so many good times with it. Well, it's time to help the rest of us keep these one-of-a-kind machines on the road. Otherwise, we have not much option. The 454 engines ran hot, were abused and blew up. I'd bet that most of the diesels are still running (50 or so?) We need help with parts to keep the coolest mo/ho ever invented running.

This is a link to Brads page on Airforums. bkahler

Go to his "contact info" and try the options there. He hasn't been on since September though.

All the more reason for us to keep our eyes peeled for orphans parked behind barns or forlorn in boneyards.
