Furnace Replacement
I have a Suburban NT-30 S furnace that needs to be replaced. I've read through many of the old posts to get some background info. From what I understand the Suburban NT30SP or NT34SP would be the correct replacement. I recenlty acquired my 1984 300. I've never used the furnace so not sure if would be best to upgrade to the 34,000 BTU or just stick with the 30,000 BTU. Any thoughts?

I just replaced mine with NT34SP. It took a little work and imagination. I will be uploading my pictures just as soon as I can.

There is no good reason to increase the Btuh output of the furnace. In any reasonable conditions, the original output was fine. I have in face put smaller furnaces in a couple of my various AS over the years, with no problems, and they had lower 12 volt power draw, due to the smaller fans. So, if the original was 30,000, replace it with a 30,000, or even the next size smaller, like 24 or 26,000 unless you plan to stay in the north country, all winter and live in your AS.
A 34,000 is not an Upgrade.

I replaced the NT-30 S in our Excella with an NT-30 SP last year. It was a direct, no changes, use the old thermostat, plug right in installation. Works great, heats the trailer just fine.

Source for NT-30 replacement?
Excuse the revival of an older thread, but there was no mention of a source for the Suburban NT-30 replacent. I need to know where to buy a used or discounted NT-30SP.
Thanks.

Furnace
I bought my NT-30SP from (AAA Appliance Service) in Sacramento (916)929-9777. I paid $595 last June. I shopped everywhere and this was the cheapest price I could find. Also since it was local I didn't have to pay shipping.

I think PPL sells them for $568. Google rv furnace. You can also look on ebay under rv furnace. I saw a couple of used ones.

Palomino sells both the NT30 and NT35 for $400 (800) 297 5830.
I would not trust a used furnace.

Wow I could have saved almost $200!!!. I guess that will have to be chalked up to another lesson learned from the AIR FORUMS. I have got to say that there is no better resource than what can be found on this forum. When it comes to my search of knowledge, AIR FORUMS always comes through. I really appreciate those that are willing to share their information and experiences here and would like to tell you all THANK YOU.

No website, just phone number. Palomino has kind of a clearinghouse approach. They are not warm and fuzzy, don't give advice, and you have to know exactly what you want ahead of time.

A good training exercise for ordering from Palomino might be watching "The Soup Nazi" Seinfeld episode. No Soup for you!

It's such a pleasure to talk to a friendly, helpful, company that actually appreciates your business. I often wonder how some companies stay in business.

Bethany,
I put a new 30k BTU furnace in our 1984 310 a couple of years ago replacing the existing 30K BTU and it heats the motorhome just fine. Just FYI.
