Fueling Rage

Has this happened to any of you?

Pull up in your RV at a gas station, see someone trying to come in from a side entrance, let them go to be courteous. They pull up to the only diesel pump to fill their gasser after you let them in.

I proceed to ask them if they would mind pulling up to a different pump because the one on the end island is the only one my RV will fit in, and it is the only pump with diesel.

The witch of a person says... 'yeah... um... how about... you just WAIT!'

I waited, knowing full well all the violent things I was thinking were bad, and not worth acting on regardless of how good I think they would make me feel. Then when she got back to the pump I said "Ma'am, it is my sincerest wish that you learn kindness and thoughtfulness of others, but if that should fail, I would settle for watching you be denied a simple kindness and see how you react." To that she dropped the F-bomb and drove off in a huff. However, she did move much faster after the comment.

Anyone else ever have a similar incident?

Hi, I kind-of understand and somewhat don't. First off it is not a Diesel only pump, but probably should be. If that is the only easy access pump to fill my gasser, while towing my trailer, I'm going to use it to pump my gas. When not towing, I do my best to avoid the Diesel/gas pumps because they are usually stinky and messy; And to let the Diesels in there.

Life is too short to fight over gas pumps IMO.

Ahhh... poor description on my part. The vehicle was an oldsmobile alero (smallish), and all the other pumps were open...

People today often return courtesy with rudeness. These are the times we live in.

I just try to remain courteous, right up until... Well, the other person makes it clear that they are devoid of courtesy and social graces....

Write it off to a bad moment. Look at it this way, you could be her, now that would suck.

I don't sweat the 10% rule! (10% of all people are jerks) I just try to be part of the 90% that are decent and courteous. I feel sorry for them and their miserable lives.

And I generally fuel at the bigger truck stops. I think I get a better grade of fuel too.

Was she under the age of about 95? If so, calling her "ma'am" probably also pissed her off, and thus, led to the dropped F-bomb.

I HATE when people call me "ma'am."

How about the customers pull to the pump, then go inside for a rest stop, meal purchase or shopping spree. Their vehicle sitting in the pump isle, unattended for extremely long times. Gripes my butt....but life is to short.

Stopping at a Service Centre on the I90 in Mass., the design of the fuel islands meant that unless I could pull forward to the front gas pump then my trailer stuck out into the access road behind me, blocking it for other users. Naturally it was busy and, as is to be expected, I couldn't pull forward immediately and blocked said access road. This must have been for, oh 30 to 45 seconds and yet the honking and yelling I was getting from the temporarily blocked drivers was appalling. Where else was I going to go? I could hardly nose the guy in front of me out of the way.

To add insult to injury, just when we'd filled up cleared the pumps, the two designated RV parking slots were taken up by lazy ****wits in cars. I rolled up behind one of them and stopped within an inch of his rear bumper; that made him move off quickly!

It was just one of those days I guess.

Go to your trailer and grab the mossburg and blow out her rear window to get her attention. Dump two more shells into her trunk to show you mean it. Wait..... Too many terminator and Chuck Norris movies. Put a Barney DVD in and just wait it out.

Whenever I see someone flip another driver off I wonder, how does he/she know that other person isn't armed and having a bad day?

The responses to this thread are refreshing. I especially like the points of it not being worth it, there will be 10% who are jerks, and it would be worse to be them. Also got to thinking, maybe they have zero control in their life, and that little bit of control is all they have.

Thanks!

I'd pull up close to her car and leave the diesel idling. The turbo needs to cool off anyway, right? And everyone loves the sound of an idling diesel engine nearby, right?

Seriously, though: Ugh. That's just rude. But that's what we see in society nowadays - no one thinks of anyone else. Just read other threads here to find a lot of great examples.

I don't like the diesel pumps that are stuck between two gas pumps. Nothing like blocking TWO other pumps while I get diesel! Inevitably they shut off at $75, too, even if they have the larger truck-size nozzles.

At most of my refueling stops the 345 coach takes up a whole lane next to more than one pump. This blocks access to the pump at the end of the lane that I'm not using. And pumping 60+ gals takes much longer than filling the tank of a car. So I'm forced to rely on their patience and understanding of other customers if no other pumps are available. Plus the room to maneuver into and out of the pump area is lots more than most vehicles need. So in a sense I'm taking more than a normal share of time and space. Knowing this makes me really appreciate the mostly positive comments about the airstream that generally come my way in this situation
But then there is that 10% that are having a bad day (life) mostly that's their problem. I just try to tune them out as much as I can. Who need to share their dark cloud anyway?

Cheers Richard

Wow, all this over a gas pump. Guess you guys do not live in a college town rudeness is the norm because that is how they are taught. No concept of thinking about the other guy. It is all about them.. It is the new norm. Again, please do not confront people who you think wronged you, the response could be devastating. They know what they did and expect your response. It is a power thing and that part of society has all the power. Jim

This is one reason I don't have a diesel anymore. It was a pain to find fuel unless you spent 45 mins at a truck stop.

" 10 % are jerks " I live about 15 mins form Ocean City MD . This time of year it goes to about 65% jerks . Tour tarts ! The only thing that matters is themselves . . . me me me get out of my way ! When the salt air hits what little brain they have they go total stupid . They'll cut you off at every chance they get . But the way I deal with them , A.S. 345 runs nice about 58 to 60 mph and they go 75 or my service truck can run 75 but I chose 58 . One more thing , when M.H. needs gas I try to gas her up on Sunday afternoon when the herd is headed home . She is so fat she takes up four gas pumps and I run the pump as slow as possible . If you have not figured out , I love to piss off them tour tarts .

Ice Berg

p.s. it is Friday and I need to go to Ocean City for work . . . so I will piss off someone who would of flipped and cut you off

You welcome and have a nice day
