Question Flamingos!

I am curious, Why the Flamingo? (They are all pink ... are they not?)

Is it just an 'Airstream thing' or is there a root cause! Someone somewhere must have had the first one. Moreover, you computer buffs... why don’t we have a flamingo smiley? There is a pink rabbit!

More than that should I continue this trait in the UK? If I do some one is bound to ask "Why the Flamingo?” ... What do I say.... "It's those Americans! they started it but nobody knows why...."

While we are at the American terminology, what is 'LOL' I keep seeing it, and I have had it said (Written) to me...

I am very impressed with these forums on technical and anything Airstream so I hope I will not be let down on these two questions.

Would you believe it .. There are only a handful of Airstream motor homes in the UK and I have one only 20 miles away in one direction, and another 35 miles in another - I'm Surrounded!

Just had a thought......

Is it something to do with dancing around the flag-pole... Flamingo - Flamenco (Spanish Dance?)

I was wondering if there is, or was, some sort of initiation dance ceremony that new 'Streamers do on their first rally! Then, finally embarrassment took over and the Flamingo was adopted.

It’s only just a wild (English-sense-of-humour) thought.

Well I will write it to you too for this post. LOL

Someone else will have to tell you why flamingos. But I can tell you LOL means laughing out loud. You must have shown your English humour before.

Morning' Chuck! As I hale from north of the border I seem to be gifted (cursed some say) with more of an English sense of humor.
I've often had to explain myself, and this humor, when it falls short but that's another story....
I tell folks that the American humor is more akin to "slapstick" where the British is more subtle and built on the double entendre'.
And then there was Geo. Formby... The Carry On Gang.... and oh my God....Monty Python!(LOL indeed)
AS far as the pink birds I have no clue. My last ex-wife was nuts about Flamingos but didn't know they went with Airstreams...she'd have got the Airstream too.

I don't know why either, but when I was a kid we always heard about old folks in Florida with pink flamingos outside of their trailers. Though I saw some of different colors at stores in Florida last year, I've only seen pink ones set up. My husband wanted one for the airstream, so my sisters gave him a surprise birthday party with a pink flamingo theme. There were pink flamingos everywhere. We now have 6 for the outside along with flamingo lights, flamingo cups and even a pink flamingo hat. You should have seen his face when he came in the room. It was very funny. lol LeeAnn

Guard Flamingos

Actually our 2 pink flamingos serve the purpose of warding off evil doers at night

As for the origin of these creatures, I'm not sure but I believe that someone hit it right on the nail. It's all about our elderly friends from Florida.

Regardless...we keep ours on a leash.

I think I may give the "pinkies" a miss if they relate to the old folk. I have enough trouble now convincing myself I am not "an' ol' doddery fool!"

I just like old things..... dont tell the wife! (she's old too......)

Seriously, I will read up on the past postings, following the guides earlier.... they look terrifying...

Glen I see you have a similar outlook to me.... It must be the Saxon blood?

I have just returned from Beith and Glasgow, going back in two weeks to Inverness and Selkirk, some one has to!

There is a sense of humour.................

I am not sure about the Pink Flamingo origin either, I just know I have to have some for the Airstream!

In addition to LOL, there is lol, which is less intense than LOL. There is also RIFL, which means "Roll in the Floor Laughing." I am a member of another forum (for Disney, see signature below for explanation) and they have a page set up with all of the acronyms used in that forum. Maybe we should set one up here. They also have a number of Smilies including two different versions where the smilie is rolling back and forth laughing.

Flamingo Migration

The pink flamingoes have landed in Hawaii - I didn't know they could travel that far!

During a middle-of-the-night escapade, these were placed in front of our Bambi as a surprise. I would say they are happy with their view.

Fred and ethel are our main Flamingos. They are the plasticc type with the wire legs. They are our daytime guardians. At night, we have Francine, our neon Flamingo.
