A buddy of mine wants to convert a school bus into a camper. He wants to shorten it to 30’ haul his kids and dirt bike to the desert and mountains. Not my cup of tea at this stage but got me thinking.

If someone wanted to do a diesel conversion these Bluebird and Thompson school buses are auctioned off at about 10 years and 100k miles. Most are well serviced and ready for duty. They go for $4000 - $6000. Good price for a donor for a drivetrain in a 370, 345…

Not a project I have time for now but thought I’d pass the thought on. Also be a good engine and transmission to upgrade a 360 pusher to a 6.7 Cummins ISB and Allison.

I think you just answered your question. Good project for your 360, as for my 370LE, the ideal set-up in my opinion would be the Gale Banks 866 package. Don’t mind the $30,000.00 price tag, just have to sell a few more screwdrivers, then I could sell my super 460/E4ODE set- up to Ken and move forward ! ……..maybe when I retire……….Regards, Bob

Great package……Gale Banks was under contract to deliver all they could make to the US government, so I was told there were none to be had. At over $30,000.00 for the package I figured I might wait and buy one surplus in about 5 years when they become obsolete. I’m kind of glad now that I went for the rebuild of the 460, and the install of the HP E4ODE. With the price of diesel (insane) ! Say, you seem to be close to Pennwood, are you up to bringing one of your 345’s to Pennwood for a “Get-Together” ? Regards, Bob

Just topped off the truck (20 some gallons) and two cans for tractor. $200!

Diesel prices hurt but still a better deal with 12-13 mpg vs gas.
