Fan Clutch failing...
Seems the fan clutch stays locked up, the roar of the radiator fan is constant.
Ordered a Spal 16” electric fan, Derale thermostatic control, Cole Hersee continuous duty solenoid and SeaDog Resettable Fuse.
Some of the parts arrived yesterday so let’s take that sucker out...
Installed fan, thermostatic control and fuse...awaiting solenoid.
Merry Christmas!

How many Amps does your alternator put out? I am curious what the draw is with the electric fan. My alternator belt squeals like a SOB whenever load is increased (like when trying to start generator when engine is running). Belt tension seems good

Kyle,
Re Alternator output, Not sure, have to check...
Wanted to solve fan clutch issue, OEM cost was equivalent to electric fan, control, solenoid and resettable fuse.

Cole Hersee Continuous Duty Solenoid arrived in the mail.
Installed, wired up and fired up. Adjusted the thermostatic control to come on about 190 degrees. Initial startup in driveway, all appears to be working.
Will take the coach out for a test drive tomorrow...

dont mean to worry you, but you may want to check your isolator connections. The wire on the right, which should go to either the coach or motor battery looks awful small. Center is typically the feed from the alternator.

Have chased my issue with intermittent “misfires” under load.
Checked many of the obvious components since last August, but could not identify the culprit...until now.
On our trip to JAX, tach started intermittently reading 4000 rpm at 60 mph. Replaced the HEI Ignition Module...travelled additional 1000 miles and no misfires!
So happy!

Whew!
Gearvendors overdrive arrived late last week and install completed. Replaced all the u-joints and center bearings as well.
Test drive at 60 mph, rpm about 2400.
Looking forward to a longer drive as we will visit Natchez for a week.

You'll love it. Mine got even smoother after I got the driveline angles corrected. Mine were off. Learned WAY more than I imagined, working with 3 driveshafts!

Dave,
What symptoms did you experience with the angles being “off”?

It was a slight rumble under a load around 50 - 55 MPH. It was hard to feel it from the drivers seat but I could hear it. Always had it, didn't get it till everything was right for it to show up. Thought it was just the road conditions sometimes until I installed the Gear-Vendors and they talked about driveline angles/vibrations. I bought a digital protractor and found out the u-joint operating angles were not canceling each other out like they should. Finally found some help here to fix it.

Go down to appendix 4. 4-2 is 3 piece drivelines. A lot of stuff there along with the GV install instructions about drivelines.

Dan,
Thank you for the link...useful information.
Operating angles, working angle, inclinometer, carpenter square, shaft cancellation theory, phasing...oh my brain hurts!
Although all looked good on paper, felt a vibration manifesting as a “slight bounce”.
As I replaced all u-joints, both center support bearings and had the driveshaft balanced...what else remains?
“Slap forehead”, the transmission mount is probably original from 1982. Quick run to the parts store, the new mount is 1” taller. An hour under the coach to install the mount...next test drive showed a marked improvement.
More to come...
