Deadbolt Lock

I've had to crawl in the driver window multiple times due to the door lock not working with the key. It's becoming an irritation. Everything seems to work as it should with the panel off, while I observe the mechanism's movement.

Has anyone considered adding a deadbolt lock to the entrance door? It appears there's enough room to add the lock just below & to the left of the existing mechanism. My Revcon has a Kwikset Deadbolt.

I realize there will probably be a need to have a ring for additional support on the inside of the door for the outer portion of the deadbolt lock. Is there anything that would prevent the striker going thru the door frame or jamb?

I added a deadbolt to my 72 safari. It works great. Had my buddy weld a longer piece of rod onto a Home Depot deadbolt lock. Measured 10x and cut/drilled once.

Works great. I don't use the door lock any more.

There are about a thousand threads on this forum about deadbolts.

Depending upon which handleset you currently have, some have issues with locking as a result of road vibration. In other words, they can lock just driving down the road, and depending upon their age, once they lock, the key often doesn't do much good to get them unlocked.

I almost always modify the handleset so that the lock no longer functions (it is only a latch), and then I add a deadbolt.
