310 Odometer and Tach

Can the odometer and tach in my 310 be rebuilt and if so does anyone know of a reputable company. I would like to remove the high tech gauges that a PO had installed on the dash in a wood box, pic attached of the mess they are smaller and the tach is stuck also. Like to get them back where they go.

Banana Wrap, motorhome – right front, fiberglass

I am looking for the right front banana wrap for my 83 Classic if someone runs across one that is laying around. Mine has a crack and the parking light hole is cracked and would like to find a replacement. Let me know if one is out there.

Doubt it.
Both styles are Or we’re NLA when I enquired a few years back.
It is Vac formed ABS.
The later design is available in fiberglass from Inland, but they look to have ripples, and would need body working before paint. The later one has a chin spoiler which ours doesn’t have.
My advice would be to fix what you have.
You will need MEK.

I hate to say it but your's is in better shape than a lot of them out there.

Like Steve said, MEK and ABS plastic pellets to make the repairs.

Sorry for the bad news....

Brad

That's what I was afraid of, guess I can add it to my list to get things fixed. Slowly getting there. Thanks for the help, couldn't remember what was mentioned before to repair it. Now I know.

That's repairable!
If only mine was that good!
See my thread to see how bad mine are.

I jsut wrote a whole "How to", only to have it disappear and not save when I hit post...
30 mins work, gone...
Let me regroup and I will retype when the steam stops coming out of my ears...

Keyair,
That would be a great help, understand on typing everything in and lose it in the posting process. I have the utmost faith you will prevail again and get it retyped.

Plan C is to build a vacuum former
I had a start on a 2'x4' table with 2' draw depth before I moved into the airstream

I've got the how to book floating around somewhere, if i find it I'll post a link to it, not much to it if you can weld and do 110V wiring (both prerequisites to airstream ownership IMO)

I have had some parts vacuum formed. It is a simple process.
For small numbers of parts a wooden form works very well.
I have been thinking about doing the same thing.

I have been thinking about making a CNC model of the Airstream
part using one of the free CAD design programs available. Then

using a CNC router to cut plywood in the desired shape as slices

of the design. These slices could then be stacked up and glued to

make the mold.

A box to heat the plastic sheet is simple to make. Then you need
a frame to carry the heated plastic sheet from the heat box and
lay it over the mold as the vacuum is applied.

Anyway, a thought experiment so far.

Book with detailed plans for how to build a vacuum former, is 2'*2' but easily and simply scaled up, probably a few hundred in parts and a few days work to build

https://www.amazon.com/Secrets-Build...ng-Machine/dp/

Wooden forms are easily handmade (look up wood sculpting with power tools) or as mentioned you can CNC sheets, glue together, sand to finish

Here is how to build a CNC machine using a 3D printer, pretty straightforward, I built a 2'*4' cnc table with rails ordered online and a wooden door from the hardware store as a base, and it worked surprisingly well. He sells complete kits as well if you don't have a 3D printer (but c'mon, it's 2019, who doesn't have a 3d printer)
I also put a 3W laser on it and used it for engraving cutsey decorations for the wife/as gifts

https://www.v1engineering.com/specifications/

And a great 3d printer I highly recommend (get the kit)

310 Electrical Question

Have any of you all ran across these wires while working around the lower left corner of the door and under the step. Had these three wires hanging down so I decided to investigate. They are not connected to anything. The light in the door threshold had no wire connected anywhere just a twist type holder and the 194 bulb, door bell doesn't work either. Step works so I have no clue what they are for.

Possibly the wires to feed the amber light on the electric step when you turn the porch light on.....the light over the door. Regards, Bob

Bob,
Thanks I will check that out, my step does not have a amber light on it, the plastic step insert has the only light might be why I have loose wires, the black wire has a round resistor looking thing molded into the wire, never seen anything like it but it is a Airstream. Thanks Jim

that is probably the mercury switch. Its mounted on the step for the step light on your dash to go on and off
