I never purchase any vehicle or trailer, that is not in the sellers name, even if the title is signed by the previous owner, unless the seller is a legit dealer.

How the heck does one lose an entire storage drawer?
It's not exactly easy to misplace....

I might know where a couple of drawers could be available. They would most likely need rebuilding but that's better than the alternative.

No miles, wrong transmission, interesting spare cover, and intercooler? Newer A/C's 95% of panels don't have dents other than the front, which could be bondo'd and painted gray for that matter.

Fairly well kept nice coach for the price, it looks like.......A Peter project maybe?

I once pulled out my massive front bin only to have it drop off the slide tracks and the front of it almost dropped to the ground. Others on this forum have also had bins all of a sudden while driving, drop down and hit the pavement. Why Airstream used a crummy 1/2" slide with a 75 lb weight rating instead of the Accuride 3/4" slides that have a 150lb weight rating is beyond me.

Hmmm, some may decide to leave the drawer where you "misplaced" it after all three batteries exploded upon impact. Happened to our friend Chriscraw last week in northern New Mexico. Drawer came unlocked and hit a guard rail. Imagine the horror! All is well, I am sure Chris wants to chime in when he gets back to Austin, but here is a preview

This may not be the correct thread to continue this drama but, as Peter H as "warmed the plate" here's the aftermath. I'll repost shoulda Forum Member offer guidance.
A resounding thump and crash on Highway 68 north of Santa Fe (actually Valverde) caught me by surprise as the 350LE was flying along running on all 8 cylinders. Whoa!, I thought must have been some rock on the road as the chassis skipped sideways but she steadied and I kept going. As Dixon (New Mexico) was my ultimate destination and only just up the road, I pressed on. Outside the Dixon Co-Op grocery store, I stopped, turned off the ignition, only to realize that everything went dead!
A flat battery (I thought), reached down to engage the house battery coupling switch and, nothing! I opened the door, jumped out and turned to my right and...well look at the pic.
On examination, it appears that my ill-founded confidence in the remaining battery box lock was, well, wrong. As one of the two locks was missing when I purchased the Airstream some 3 years ago, I assumed one was sufficient. Wrong. As mentioned in this Thread, the original slide design was under-rated for a drawer which, when loaded, would weigh some 230-250 lbs.
Recovery is in two phases. On-site, connected to shore power, I had 120 volts (my 120-volt mini-fridge saved the day as did LP gas for hot water "sponge baths"). Phase 1 is now in place which connected an H8-AGM brute of a battery through an 80 amp circuit breaker to the 12-volt coach circuit providing me with hot water and a backup fridge as well as interior lighting. As the Airstream will spend this winter in Dixon (as was always planned). phase 2, the box rebuild will be in the lap of a local metal-working craftsman. Fortunately, the aluminum front box panel appears to be salvageable See pic.
Can't seem to find any replacement drawer slides that replicate the right-angle style chosen by Airstream which provided 3 vertical slide mounting bolts on each side. so for now, I'm probably going with fabricating metal brackets to mount Hettich 3/4" slides with a capacity of 500 lbs. I'll also consider replacing the elegant original keyed lock with something more robust (also a microswitch connected to a dash light which glows when open!). Although I searched the accident site, I could find no sign of the original circuit breaker and solenoid which, according to the manual, were bolted to the rear of the battery box so as to complete connection to the engine charging circuit and coach battery?
Any thought, suggestions etc will certainly be appreciated as well as expressions of sympathy and good ol' back-slapping.

I am talking to a seller of a 345 and I am looking for pitfalls to avoid. The seller has been responsive. I have gotten answers to quests that I have asked so far. we have been going back and forth, I am waiting for additional info.

I asked about milage and the response was that the unit has over 70k on it but the odometer had to be changed by the previous owner and and the new reading needs to be added to the 70k. I have never had this issue. Is it possible that this is legitimate?

I have the VIN what is the best avenue to check the vehicle records to avaoid a scam?

Major questions to ask concerning these units or a sale like this?

Any advice would be welcome.
I appreciate any help.

There should be a checklist on the site. Google it and it should show up. Big money is with engine/gearbox. Check status of repairs and receipts. Always a good guide as to how well maintained it has been

Fwiw, odometer and speedometer don't work on my unit, i think it's a fairly common issue

My suggestion is to write and open description of the vehicle and as many details, as you feel comfortable with (avoiding address/location etc) and post it on this Forum. You would be surprised by the number of Members who might have already come across your targeted purchase or may know some of its history. There are numerous Forum Members who can recount the shock and horror of chasing down a particular Airstream motorhome only to find that most sellers succumb to that hyper-inflationary description syndrome compounded by severe and unaccountable lapses in memory when pressed!

There is a '94 Landyacht for sale on Facebook that has Alcoa wheels and a Banks power pack for $850. The wheels should fit a classic, so it might be worth picking up for those two things. It's not likely salvageable, but might be worth the wheels, and headers if someone is looking for a project....

Uh huh, and how much labour and cost will it take to despose of the rest of the caracass? I'm in the process now of doing this to a motorhome, and I'm concertively estimating 100 hours to scrap and $1,000 in bin rental and landfill costs. I could be way out of line on this.
