Hm. I'm not far away, but some of the issues are a bit daunting. Backfiring is not a good sign. "Most of the parts are inside..." Is also concerning.

Any expert opinions out there. I do have the skills, but wonder if this is too far gone to recover

My instinct would be to replace the distributor, or at least the coil, to go after the backfiring problem. I thought that I was chasing fuel supply problems when we bought ours with similar symptoms but it turned out to be a failing coil.

It will definitely need lots of love. I'm no expert, but the wraparound rear windows tell me that it's a rear bedroom model. I have not seen a lot of 20 footers, much less 20 footers with rear bedrooms.

It's the rear twin, so should also have the roto-dinette at the front instead of a passenger seat.

backfire

I had issues with backfiring on my 94 . 454 33 ft airstream . Turned out to be the wires . They looked fine but we're somehow crossfireing. Bad insulation bad insulation I guess . Those wire get awful hot in the doghouse . Try replacing them first .

That one is gonna need a lot of love. I like the fact that they show photos of it out on the road, but is there possibly a small tow vehicle concealed out in front?

I'm glad it isn't closer to us streamquest.

I'm sure between that and what's left of my donor it could be fully functional. just not worth the cost of getting the two parts in the same location, and the 24ft rear twin was my second choice layout to the 20ft rear bed that we managed to get. It was the only rear bed/roto-dinette combo that that was ever available. Our rear bed had no dinette originally (the roto-dinette was on the rear-bath only in 20ft).

I'm also looking at time and money issues. I'm getting too old for a long project. Sigh.

Looks like some effort has gone into the exterior, but the interior is a total basket case, so why do I keep going back and looking?

What's the chance of it making a cross country drive???

1976 airstream argosy motorhome 28 foot aluminum - $3895 (topaz ranch estates)

This one is still out there, but there are pictures of the interior now.

1976 AIRSTREAM ARGOSY MOTORHOME 28 FOOT ALUMINUM

Also, can anyone tell me what the going rate is for a inspector from here to do an inspection on a motorhome? I live in California and want to know about one in Tennessee.

I want someone to give it the sniff test and make sure it really exists and is worth coming out to see.

Thanks
lani

I charge $100-200 for a full inspection in the central Texas area, depending on location.
Well worth the expense, since at times, free can be too expensive.

Peter, You are so right. Even an airplane ticket cost much more than that. I have one more private message out to an inspector listed in the area. Having someone check it out for me would certainly be worth the money. We are giddy with excitement and trying to hold ourselves in check. So many things could make this fall apart. I keep telling myself that this might not be the one, but I certainly want it to be. I am sure many of you can relate.

Just over one hour left on the bidding on a 325 with the bid at just over 3,000.

However this rig has been on Ebay before so be cautious as I suspect the seller is really looking for that $500.00 non-refundable deposit and doesn't really want you to pick up the coach.

Make it non running, you can't work on it at the location and he needs it move the day the you give him the deposit or else he re-lists and you loose.

LOL! This person gets an -F- for their "homework"! While the true number may never be known, it is much higher than 4!

Yeah but he did miss one trick as the early grille 28ft was a one year model not two, then they changed to the 'square' grille'.....there's a lot more than 4 but still pretty rare.

Do you think they backed into something? Any idea what that would cost to fix?

I see that you perked right up LaniKai , on that 310. I would too if I was looking.

Rear bed, body looks nice in the pics. Don't know about availability of the rear glass. Bummer it's so far from you.

Maybe you can locate an inspector locally to check it out for you.
Good to see there are no buttons missing on the cocktail chair or sofa :-)
