...cause Peter is going into the UBER eats home delivery service and has decided that cooking the food outside the customers house, cuts out the middleman. Ghost kitchen is the term I think.
It would be a pretty good business; you have a menu that the customer places orders over the phone; you drive over and cook outside the house and then deliver it, hot ready to eat.

Cheers

Hmm funny how life is..My first major Airstream Motorhome resto around 2001 was a 1979 Excella, very much like the one in question. It was in real nice condition when I sold it to this guy, who claimed he had some special people to redo the interior just for his "needs". He even offered me to keep some of the interior furnishings and custom blinds, some of which are still being used in my little guest cottage out back.

I believe it was 2012 when he bought it from me. 15 minutes after he picked it up, I bought late 87MH's 345, but thats not why i am writing this, since the 345 story ended up with the entire front end being totally destroyed with the roof of his house, by this other guy who bought it from me when he knocked it out of gear in his driveway.

No, this story is about what I saw 3 week ago, 7 years later, when I happened to work in Lago Vista, just north of Austin. To get there, I had to drive through this little town and in a parking lot on the side of the road I saw my beloved 1979 Excella parked. I just had to pull over to greet my old pal, but what I found was extremely disturbing:
on the interior everything, incl the plumbing was ripped out and someone laid down diamond steel sheets. The walls were poorly covered in some alu sheeting and a giant stainless steel sink was sitting against one of the walls. Both AC's and all roof vents were missing, all exterior access doors were missing, the Honda watercooled generator with may be 120 hours was ripped out with wires dangling. My DW, who was with me felt like we just found are long lost dog, wet and hungry on the side of the road.

Obviously, this person tried to convert this beautiful coach to what my buddy Sidekick Tony is suggesting, but I think I will pass on this one.

But thanks for thinking of me..

Peter, it's a real shame what someone did to your old coach. I find it amazing how many times someone starts out with good intentions towards doing a conversion of some sort and then realize after it's to late that they either don't have the skills, money or time to complete the task.

Brad

Brad, I knew you would understand the shock and disappointment. I would not even take my old 79 for free now, it has been butchered so badly. Every time, I see an Ad that states "Ready for your dream interior" I run as fast as I can.

Not even worth scrap value once you add towing charges and disposal.

Cheers

Most likely lots of good parts still on her, but by the time you add your efforts to strip it; dispose of the rest; create ads, package everything else ready to ship to people......I don't know if the returns would reward the effort.

....but I'd love to have a few parts.

Cheers

Okay this isnít a classic, but somebody tell me whether there is any reason that a rear engine and trans like this could not be transplanted into one:
