Backup Monitor

Anyone out there have a spare original backup monitor for an Ď87 345 laying around? Mine is dying a slow painful death and I reeeeally donít want to mess with wiring so I am looking for original to just plug in and be happy(ish).

LOL....I still have the original out of the 325LE and the 370LE, but to be honest with you they are both junk, grainy and black and white.....do yourself a favor and buy an Alpine color and put it in the original housing.....you only need three of the twenty wires that are in the original cable, you will also need a new color monitor for the front, if this is beyond your capabilities any good stereo guy should be able to do this for you, Regards, Bob

Do the wire colors at the original monitor and at the camera match? If so it should be easy enough to wire I think. A color monitor with a clear picture would be quite the novelty...

Yes, the original cable runs from the front to the back uninterrupted. Both of mine were in factory overhead vinyl lined boxes, i opted for an Alpine 8Ē stereo, with navigation, and a DVD player, although the navigation system sucks the display is excellent. I have recently started using my I pad with google maps for navigation and because I travel alone I have found that this works the best for me. I am currently looking for an I pad holder so I donít have to navigate with it on my lap, Regards, Bob

I bought an OEM camera at Colaw. They have a shelf full of cameras and monitors of the correct vintage.

I know you love those guys.....

Works, but still 25 year old picture quality.

I agree with the idea of a new camera/monitor and simply soldering the correct connectors on the existing wiring.

Regards,

JD

I do really hate to give any money to the a$$#0les at Colaws but the more I think about it the black and white monitor doesnít really bother me as long as I can see what is behind me. Also I have enough projects currently without figuring out wiring for a new system. I am gonna exhaust everything else I can before going to colaws as a total last resort though..

I have the monitor and camera from the 86 345 that I dismantled. I haven't had the heart to throw them away....yet. I don't know if they work or not.

Interested?

Brad

On my 310, pulling new wire wasn't a big deal but the original wiring ran over the roof to the fridge vent. Then down through the vent, through the floor, under the coach to the heater core area, then up through the floor. I followed the same path with the new wire and it was pretty easy. Now I have no idea when the original camera was installed but it looked like others Ive seen on our coaches. It was obviously close to the same age as the coach anyway. You can't see the wire running over the roof from the ground. I could have used the original wiring but just thought as long as I'm doing a new system I might as well use new wire. Plus you need to be concerned about the connectors on both ends.

I have the same problem with my backup camera. I was considering installing
a camera that looked through the rear window. You can get really small cameras
these days. This solves the weather proofing problem and the wiring problem.
I was going to glue it directly to the glass.

Something like this;

I would make a small cover to protect the electronics.
