backup camera replacement

So, I have the diesel engine running (1996 Cummins) and the Allison transmission (2008 Chevy) working. Now I need to look at replacing the none-functional backup camera. What to use? Can I use the wiring for a new system? What about one with blind spot cameras? Don't want a wireless system because I really what the blind spot cameras.
Remember this is a 1986 34.5 motor home.

Hi

Many of the wireless systems will support many cameras. Is that 4, or 12 or something in-between? It depends on which one you get. The existing wires will give you power and that's the biggest PIA in getting this sort of thing hooked up.

As to which one. Find a place you can actually *see* how (bad) the cameras are. Finding something that has the dynamic range and clarity to be useful is not as easy as it should be.

I used the original wiring to get power to and video signal back to the dash. I found a camera I could fit inside the original housing. It gives a good color picture in daylight and adequate vision in black and white in the dark. It had the ability to reverse the image so left and right would appear as in a rear view mirror. Most displays have such ability now a days. Short answer, I stuck with a wired camera and used the original wiring.

Years ago the 12-24VDC power supply smoked and I bought a 110VAC-24VDC supply then used a 12VDC to 110VAC inverter.
I really hate to peel the dash open to get to all that. Every time I do I knock something off the back of the dash board. That hot glue they used to mount all the light and switched just don't hold up after 31 years.
Guess I'll take a car trip to Camping World and see what they.

Backup Camera

This is an interesting topic for me. I have a wireless system in the 350LE, which works intermittently. I have been trying to get more information on the Pro Vue 360 ASL system from the manufacturer - we have it in another car and it is really nice. I think it would be awesome in the 350LE.

Backup cameras are nice, but does anyone have a surround view system on their moho?

The Pro Vue 360 ASL system looks good, but looks like you'd have to travel by land and by sea and by land again to get one.

It's raining outside (thank God!) so I decided to tear into the backup camera. Not as easy as I thought. The lens cover came right off and two screws hode the camera into a 15 pin connector. Had to take it completely apart to the the 15 connector plug and wire loose. The builder did have enough slack wire to work with.
Will need the right video connector to install on the cable to match what ever is on the new system and then I'm guessing I only need two of the 12 other wires to make it work.
Next step is into the dash. And that is a nightmare I don't look forward to.

All back together with workable amount of extra wire

I contacted the people I bought the 'complete' T-1000 tranny and all the electronics to make it work. Now that I need the backup nights to work I call they as to where that wire is? OH! Now I need a $90 neutral safety switch and a $150 pigtail from them to have backup lights and a neutral switch.
There 'complete kit' keeps needing more and more!

Well I did it. I opened the dash and looked at all that mess of wiring. Didn't remember how I did the power supply setup years ago. Unplugged the monitor then the one plug on the power supply. It's the 12vdc, ground and backup lights (I think) Once again the builders left enough wire to work with for a new system.

You can see the power/switch box way down in all that mess.

Scrap video system. Anyone need some spare parts before this pile goes into the dumpster.

Now it's shopping time. What to get?...... What to get????

This is the system I'm thinking will work. Can get splice connectors to use old wiring.

That looks like a nice system. Where would you mount the side view cameras?

I thinking on or under the mirrors. Getting the cable to them will be a change. Anyone know how to get the inside panels off w/o damage?

Another place would be just behind the headlights. Cabling would be easier.

This means more wire behind the dash. Will need to connect to the turn signals.

Got the neutral safety switch installed. Not wired, but installed.

Going to be gone for a couple weeks, so will order next month.

I just ordered the same system except only one side camera. I'm thinking about mounting the side camera above the street side windows in front of the door on my 310. Routing the cable through the skin into the upper cabinets, then out the end of the cabinet down to the floor along the trim piece for the end cap. Then along the floor next to the wall behind the kick panel where the heater core is. Mount the multiplexer there somewhere

Hehehehe, well time to implement plan B on the side camera. I assumed the wrong orientation of the camera. I thought it pointed downwards when mounted, it is made to point towards the rear of the coach. Sooooooo, need to find another route for cable and camera placement. Can't find any info on optimum placement of the side camera, rule of thumb sort of info so we will just need to play with it a bit before we mount.

Nearly finished the backup camera yesterday. Ran new cable behind the awning mount, down the fridge vent, through the floor, up to the front under the coach, then up through the floor near the heater core behind the kick panel.
