Smile Argosy? 1979 by Altantic Research Corp

I'm new to the idea of motorhome and just clueless about them.

We bought some land in MASS. about 5 year ago to build a new home. I came across an auction on eBay for an 30' Airstream motorhome and bid on her, well I was the winning bidder at $1575.00 just what I wanted to spend to put some on the land so that we will start doing something.

My question is this, I have no idea if this is or is not an airstream, their are no ID indicating it is an airstream the only ID that is on the motorhome is the following information.

Altantic Research Corp
5390 Cherokee Ave
Alexandria, VA 22314
Serial Number: 1328S9V3350
Assemble Date: September of 1979

It looks like an Argosy modle but not sure, the insides looks sim with a 454 Chevy engine, some one was started to redo the inside so the floor layout has changed.

Any help would be very nice.

Welcome to the forums!
If you can post any photos, we would be able to give you a better answer, although the tag you found is more liklely from an owner of the coach, rather than a builder, although they could have altered it at some point, hence the tag.

Argosy? 1979 by Altantic Research Corp

Greetings Larry!

Welcome to the Forums and the world of Airstreaming!

This is speculation on my part, but it may be that it is an Argosy/Airstream motorhome that was built by the specialty division that Airstream maintained until relatively recently to build custom coaches for businesses. The VIN bears some similarity to those attached to Argosy travel trailers of the time --- the first portion of the VIN is different (prior to the S); but the balance is similar. My suspicion is that the S may designate Specialty or Special Order.
If the balance follows the mode of the travel trailers, the 9 would designate the last digit of the year 1979, the V would designate Versailles, OH as the factory location, and the last four digits would designate the sequential production number.

Good luck with your coach and solving the mystery!

Kevin!

P.S.: It appears from brief research on the internet that the company mentioned on the tag was/is involved in the Aero-Space industry -- and may have had use for such a vehicle for on-site testing.
