Airstream classic rental - California

Hi - we're thinking of visiting the West Coast in April. Does anyone has any leads on hiring a sub 30ft Airstream Classic Motorhome or just any good leads on Motorhome rental options? We would want something which can get in most state parks.

thanks in advance

Nick

We see a lot of Cruiseamerica.com RV's on the road. They use SOB RV's, but probably one of the biggest in RV rentals here in the states.

Sent from my SM-G950U1 using Airstream Forums mobile app

The only Airstream rentals I know of are trailers not motorhomes. https://www.letsgosilver.com/
As CHris and Brenda mentioned, we see a lot of cruise america MH on the road and locally in the bay area, ElMonte has a large presence. https://www.elmonterv.com/rv-rental/...u-can-rent-rvs - Brad

When I worked in Yellowstone, the scariest sight in the park was “Cruise America” in your rear view…

Thanks for the feedback. I'll check them out. Out of interest, is the Big Sur a decent route for a Motorhome? I've got a 250 myself, so used to driving it on tiny UK roads. I've also done a couple of West Coast trips, but never driven down highway 1.

Dare I suggest you could ship your 250 back to US? Last time I looked CruiseAmerica where quoting $3-400 a day for an SoB so if you are staying more than 2 weeks its cheaper to ship yours!

That's not a bad call. I'll check out the costs in and out of Galveston. Do you have any idea who offers the cheapest shipping at the moment?

I must admit I never shop around. Schumacher Cargo have always looked after me and so I tend to go with folks I know (https://www.schumachercargo.com/).

I have heard costs are up by 25-30% at the moment due to demand. We are due to ship Bella back to US (and Peanut to UK) but have held off until things calm down a little.

MoHo Rental

Hi Nick,

Why I purchased my Airstream MoHo? We went to the US approx. ten times and always rented a motorhome there. Having fun over the years and seeing an AS MoHo first time two years ago I became appetit and the story begun.
We have very good experience with renting units in the US, used both ElMonte and Cruise America. Most time 25ft but once got an upgrade to 27ft. Sure, they are not comparable to our beautiful Airstreams, most is plastic but they do their job. What we discovered over the years, look for different pick-up sites. The ones close to international aiports are sometimes overpriced. We had a case some years ago, Cruise America was twice as expensive ($200 per night) at one side of the SF bay than on the other. If you book early, you could get the units at $100 per day.
About shipping, I paid around Euro 3000 for my one last year, Galveston to Bremerhaven (Germany). Rough estimate is Euro 50 per m³. Depending on how long you would stay in the US it might make sense to ship your one over.

I’ve used outdoorsy.com out of Las Vegas. I strongly recommend you look into this for your visit!
This is an owner rv/camper rental forum. The owner sets the price and what gets included. I rented a nice class C for a week with a great experience.

You can find a much nicer unit than cruiseamerica, was less expensive, and included mileage and generous generator hour allowance. Plus you don’t have the big company logo plastered on the side of the vehicle!

You won’t find an airstream MH, but I can find multiple nice class A

Darn, missed the boat this time. We are staying with friends and in hotels, which must be the first time in 20 years. I hope I don't take to it, but if not, I might be in touch.

For us, the risk of damage or abuse far outweighs any monetary gain. It took us a long time to get it the way we want it and it's our personal space - we wouldn't want anyone in there but us. And as you know, these old girls are complicated and moody - something always needs fixed or adjusted. I'm sure I could come up with more, but those are the major reasons.

We used to have a SeaDoo Jet boat. It was fun and I kept in in great shape. Learned to do all the maintenance myself and worked on it a lot. I must have been complaining to one of my co workers about not using it as much as I'd like, and on a Memorial Day weekend our boss called me up asking if I'd rent it to him. My coworker must have said something to him about it not getting used much. Kinda embarrassing to tell your boss you'd never rent your boat to him or anyone else. Not just the possibility of mechanical damage, but if there were an accident your insurance company would probably not pay up for damage or liability since it was insured only for personal use. I'd imagine the same thing applies to an RV.
