Did you ever consider the purchase of a D.P.

instead of the Duramax D. Implant ???

Your making that Chevy 8.1 Jasper RV. engine look Better every Day.

You would still have most of the problems I am having the mounts on new chevy big blocks have changed so you can not just swap them the radiators are going to be different and all the wiring will too. I am just tiered of the 110 deg heat in and under the thing. I am hoping to have a better day tomorrow.
I hope to be on the road this coming month even if it is only to the Everglades.
Sorry I have not posted pics here as my wife keeps a blog of some of the slow progress at svrowan.wordpress.com

So, it fitted between the rails, but it sat taller than you thought?

I think it is not that much taller (4") just wider and asymmetric mounts that are designed to hang on frame hangers the oil pans are in odd places for clearances it is just a different beast.
I know if one was to take measurements from one that had done it, it could be done in 1/4 the time it is just a pain to fit and connect all the turbo lines and coolant lines. I find that every thing you think you are done with gets in the way of the next part......

Yes, engine swaps are not easy.
I have a couple of motors in my storage and some plans... a 3L 24V V6 to go in my Alfa.... A stroked 498 BBC for something....
Are you the first to have done this swap?
Keep up the great work!

I am breathless after looking thru your Blog!
The Diesel Conversion and the Boat?
And I think I take on too much?
Goodness me!

I have a question about your 345...
You towed that heavy old boat, so you have an idea how the brakes on the MH stood up..
I am sure you will have a jake or exhaust brake option with your conversion, but with the extra weight, and your clear intention to tow, have you any plan to do any brake upgrade or mods?
Based on your "Go for it" attitude, i would love to know what you think you might do?

Keyair I am not rilly changing any thing with the hydraulic brakes just adding a diyode and a pot to the tag axel brakes. I like the pendulum brake controler (tag axel: has true concurrent braking) but there is no way to apply the brakes if you neet to (the pendulum only works if the primary brakes work) so with my system if you lose primary braking (belt brakes etc.) all u need to do is turn this pot and voila you have some brakes.
The duramax has exhaust brakes thanks to its variable vane turbo and the 6 speed allison that u can select the gear with on the column shifting button.

First day back on the Airstream in 2 months. It is raining cats and dogs down here and i can not work on the boat (it is outside) so inside airstream it is :-).
Now if I could only remember all the parts/wires etc. :-(
I plan on moving back in this month so i need to get it closed up.

Air, that is one HUGE undertaking on your part! Looks great so far. Can't wait to see the end result. Maybe you could video your 'maiden voyage' and post to YouTube?
Thanks, Derek

It would sure be cool, since this is mostly a tech forum, to be able to enlarge pics to full screen size. MODS, can it be done? I currently have blank space next to this post, what for?

Interesting Thread! Can't wait to see how it comes out. I've retrofitted 3 classic vehicles with modern drivetrains. Two classic Broncos got 2000 Explorer 5.0s and a 68 Mustang got a 94 Mustang 5.0 HO. The wire harnesses were the most work.
