I have a 290 motor home. When I turn on the ignition key the air compressor kicks on and runs, and runs, and runs! It never stops. It's putting out air but not filling the rear air bags. I have constant pressure in the bags so I know it's not loosing pressure there. The lines must be loosing it because isn't the compressor supposed to stop running automatically once it senses the correct pressure? Does anyone know how to test the auto shut off switch and where I can purchase a replacement air line system for an 87 Motor home? Maybe Inland RV or Firestone??? Any help is appreciated.

If it is like my '83, 310 was plumbed for air it worked this way: The compressor had a line from it went directly to the air tank. From the air tank a second line went back to the pressure switch. In the line to from the compressor to the tank there was a check valve. In my rig, that check valve stuck shut, and would not let air from the compressor into the tank, so the pressure would not build up and allow the switch to shut off. It took me a long time to figure out about the check valve, and it's problem, as well as where it was.

I replaced the check valve on mine and all my air suspension problems were solved.

The other thing that could be happening is that the compressor is simply not producing pressure due to being worn out, or a broken fitting or some problem of that sort. Since the pressure switch on mine was not in the compressor line, but in a separate line from the tank, once it switches on, It would not go off until the pressure was brought up to the cut off level. So, worn out compressor, leaking line somewhere between the compressor and the tank, or bad check valve .

Those are my best guesses at this point.

Could be a check valve in the compressor too.

Do you recall where you purchased the valve? Also, I'd like to start the process of elimination. I'll change out the 1/4 inch air hoses first. Then pump up the system and wait to see if the pressure bleeds off. Any ideas if anyone out there sells replacement line kits?

Our air bags were leaking down overnight, so I bought a replacement check valve from Inland RV. Could not find a valve in the system to replace, so I had to adapt it to the line coming out of the compressor. Holds air much better now.
