I’m starting to get the winter list together for the next round of projects for the 370LE. I installed the new transmission pan for the E4OD today, it holds 8 more quarts than the original set up. I was concerned that the extremely high transmission temperatures hurt the new transmission that I installed 2 years ago, but after a close look at the interior of the original pan there was no reason for concern. There is no provision to drain the Hercules torque converter so I am going to do a 22 quart flush with my Trans-Tec II flush machine in a couple of weeks. I am also going to re-route the transmission cooling lines so that the fluid exits the transmission and goes through the radiator cooler first then the auxiliary cooler second before entering the transmission. I also noticed that all of the exhaust manifold bolts (16) were loose, so I re-torqued them back to spec. I had to snug up the valve cover bolts as well. I guess my 6,000 mile shake down cruise to Yellowstone and back loosened up a few things. Some of the items on the list for this winter are a new dinette, TV stand, bedroom dresser, and both night stands. My cabinet guy did an awesome job on the kitchen and I want everything else to match. Regards, Bob

If that new oil pan doesn't resolve the excessive heat you were experiencing then probably nothing will. That's a pretty impressive oil pan.

We’re finishing up our trip to Cooperstown in the 396XL, great weekend, giving my left shoulder time to recover. Got to get the 370LE ready for our trip to Roger’s Rock for a weekend of dry camping in the northern mist tip of Lake George. Now that the new transmission pan is on I’m going to flush the tranny with 20 qts of Mercon 5 ......thanks to my friends at Ford. All other bolts are tight now.....it just needs a good cleaning from our trip out West, refill the gas and water tank and take off ! Regards, Bob

Looks like some potential exposure to debris or an alligator on that pan. You going put a bash guard on it.

I’m getting the baselines together for the winter work on both the 370LE and the 396XL. I finished the 20 qt. transmission flush tonight on the 370LE. The trip to Roger’s Rock is in 2 weeks. We’ll be in Cooperstown after that for the Columbus Day weekend, then one more short trip over to eastern New York for a one-nighter. I’m looking forward to finishing up some loose ends electrical wise.

I wanted to get a few things knocked off the list before this weekends trip to Roger’s Rock. I finally cleaned the entire ceiling......I don’t think it’s ever been done. I ran the wiring for the rear bedroom inverter outlet last year and I made the final install. I also finished up the install of the aisle light under the kitchen sink cabinet. A couple more things during the week and we blast off in Friday, Regards, Bob

Hey Peter maybe a coincidence but ?? Breaking in and debugging the new engine trans going well at 5000 miles or so but now when I plug into 110 power it does not seem to be charging the RV deep cycles or Start battery either .Could it be the onboard splitter/trickle charger died . I havent detected this before maybe it died a few years ago and I never noticed . Or maybe re hooked up the batteries wrong .Still learning after all these years .Either way one of those things on the winter list

We’re up at Roger’s Rock for the weekend, looks like it’s going to be a good one. We have been blessed with awesome weather this summer. All systems are fully operational and it was a great drive up here last night. The transmission is awesome using the manual downshift mode coming down the long mountain grades. I think I worked most of the bugs out during the 6,000 mile trip to Yellowstone, Regards, Bob

With the colder weather approaching I figured it was time to re-connect the front floor heat. Because I put such a large kitchen sink in when I redid the kitchen I had to find a new place for the thermostat. Another 2 hours under the kitchen sink running wires and Walla it’s done. The sensor to turn the heat on and off is in the middle of the floor so it doesn’t matter where the control head is mounted. There is a 2 amp draw on the front heat and a 3 amp draw on the rear heat......it’s nice to have warm floors especially getting out of the shower in the morning. Regards, Bob

I brought the thermal imager home from work just to verify all of the floor heating mats were working properly. The first picture shows the area between the couch and the barrel chairs, the second picture shows the shower on the left and the bathroom on the right. The third picture shows the bedroom, the fourth, the street side next to the bed, and the fifth, the curb side next to the bed...excuse the folding chairs on the floor.Regards, Bob

Our last trip of the season brings us to Crooked Lake, NY. One of my customers invited us over for the weekend. A beautiful camp and nice lake. Temps were down to 30 degrees last night and we used the levelers to the max of their capability.

Interesting, the bags on the 370 don't get dumped when using the leveling system, like they do on the 350/345/325. Which must mean the bags are not controlled by the Tag. How do you adjust the tag load on that chassis?

OK, this is for Peter.....I’ll try to explain the suspension on the 370LE which is very different from the other Classic motor homes. The frame is from a Gillig bus. The main suspension is supported front and rear by 4 air bags. The frame height from the bottom of the frame to the floor is 27”. The rear ride height is determined by the adjustments on the tag axle. The tag axle is a torsion axle with a limited amount of travel up and down just like the trailers and the 325, 345, 350 and 360 series classic motor homes. The mid point of travel of the tag axle is where the frame is exactly 27” from the ground. When the rear is jacked up the drive axle has more up and down movement because it is not a torsion axle.
