Bob I hope you are prepared for your visit to Jackson Center. You don't want to be surprised from behind. What's the reason for the visit?

I have made it to Twin Knobs campground in The Daniel Boone national forest, got a great spot all by myself on the water, not that I can swim, but it looks nice. Will be here for a couple of days, Regards, BobClick image for larger version

So far this is the longest trip I have made in the 370LE. It appears I ďFeel the need for speedĒ, most of the interstates are 70 or better, 57 is about it for the 370LE without pushing it. It is uncomfortable not being able to keep up with the flow, so I feel I made a good choice with the 4R100 transmission for this winters diesel conversion. I am still trying to locate a 2 speed rear end that will fit into the Dana/ Spicer rear end housing. My plan is to split the rear when I get to the campground with the 5:63-1 gears sand install a set of 4:56-1 for the open road. I am shooting for a RPM of 1900-2200 at 70MPH. Still working out the final details with the engine builder for the addition of the exhaust brake install and turbo. I have cured the interior comfort levels while driving, between repairing the front dash AC, the addition of the window tinting, adding the Dyna-Mat insulation under the front carpeting and redoing the dog house fire proofing it not only keeps the sun load in check from the windows, but the constant 220 degree heat from the engine under control. The improvements have worked so well that I had to turn the AC off on the highway.....I was getting chicken skin ! So far all systems have worked perfectly except for a nagging issue with the alternator voltage regulator. I may have a bad cell in one if the batteries that may be causing the concern and I will check that out when I get back home. Twin Knobs is a great place. I was here about 6 years ago, found it by chance and I am glad to be back. Regards, Bob

I purchased a few items to do a review on why I was dry camping. The first one I was skeptical about, but it is indeed quite nice. Not knowing when and where you can run your generator while camping the first thing I need or want in the morning are a couple of cups of coffee. Itís my favorite time of day.... this Coleman product is pretty cool and I have to admit works just like the one I plug in. I placed it right over the stove, one of the smaller burners in the back and in ten minutes we were good to go! In the past I would have to wait till 8 or 9 oíclock before I could start the generator. The second item is a lantern hanger so that you can hang a Coleman lantern from a tree.....donít waste your money, it sucks unless you have a perfectly level and plum phone pole in your campsite, Regards, BobClick image for larger version

I am back home now, made the push from where I stayed in MD. to home in ten hours, thatís my limit. I learned a lot out on the road, picked up another marble (chip) in the L/S windshield. I repaired a chip years ago on another vehicle, the kit I got used a vacuum syringe and some kind of epoxy filler. Well Iíll give that a try and if it doesnít work out Iím due for new windshields anyway (fogging) at the edges, maybe over the winter. West Virginia and Maryland have some awesome interstates and some of the biggest hills Iíve ever climbed other than the passes in Colorado. Regards, Bob

That was a heck of a trip Bob. How many mikes did you cover? Sounds like the rig performed great.

LOL, so here I sit in Cooperstown for the Labor Day weekend, I just ordered up the right side exhaust manifold which is now completely shot, (happened somewhere in PA) took out the 90 amp alternator and the hydro-max is leaking in between the master cylinder and the booster. The Hydro-Max will go down to Texas after the last trip to Cooperstown in October, the new alternator will be ready on Tuesday, and Iíll do the manifold next Sunday, providing the new torch set up arrives this coming week. I sold my setup 30 years ago when I became a snap-on dealer 30 years ago figuring I would never need it again, and Iím tired of borrowing one. Other than that I logged 1675 miles on my trip to Kentucky. The engine swap may have to wait until the following winter. The 7.3 will not happen.....to difficult to get an engine builder to give me what I want. I have been in contact with Gale Banks and have decided to go with their 866T set up. Duramax w/ 6 speed Allison 1000. You can google it......sweet set up. I have enough to do over the winter anyway, finish the kitchen cabinets, granite countertops, install the electric dinette table, washer/dryer, dishwasher, new diesel generator box/door/generator, and rear end gear swap or 2 speed rear and drop the fuel tank, install new bungs and sending unit, oh yeah and all the new gauges in the new instrument panel.....,did I forget anything ????? Iíve been doing repair/upgrades that were not planned.....in between ordering hot water heaters and other items for friends to bring to the ďGet-TogetherĒ. Somewhere in PA the exhaust manifold broke and the hot exhaust gases cooled the alternator which is 120 amp. So you know where this is going.......decided to upgrade to a 200 amp single wire alternator.....new exhaust manifold, new 1.0 gauge wiring from the alternator to the isolator mounted on the back of the battery box, new fireproof cable sheathing, and try to eliminate prior incorrect modifications. All parts should be here tomorrow and I should be able to nail this down on Sunday. I made it to Cooperstown with no alternator, but had to run off the house batteries with the generator running on the way back. Iím also going to repair/redesign all the DC wiring to elongate the nasty low voltage situation when the headlights, air conditioning, or air compressor is on.....the factory piggybacked to many circuits on one primary feed so I need to isolate those circuits. Regards, Bob

Iíve had some bad experiences with very high output alternators in off-road applications running fans, lights, winches, and air compressors for suspension, hydraulics, and lockers.

Belts slipping. By the time I put big enough pulleys on to stop slipping and eating belts the output was back down to near stock.

Lot of guys in that application went to two alternators.

Making slow progress.....waiting on parts, new alternator did not come with the V belt pulley as it should have.....,exhaust manifold is still not here....... 60% of the new wiring is ready to be installed.....had to order 2, 12í lengths of fireproof sleeving for where the cables pass through the area of the exhaust manifold. Installed the new 200 amp isolator, and in the process of cleaning up all the contacts on the back of the battery box. Installing a new primary feed to the air compressor.
