Bob, did you add an additional ventline fan in the shower, or was it there to begin with?

Interesting enough though...rebuilding the original Kool-O-Matic was fun...I was able to replace the motor, found the original rubber isolation mounts, removed and cleaned and repainted the original shroud...works great and best of all can't hear it when it's running !Regards, Bob

Interesting! I also had heat problems, especially when I put my air compressor in the 12 converter spot beside my fridge. So I removed the original panel I had in the door and replaced it with a screen mesh, attached two lite (I can see then running) computer fans and cut two outlet holes in the fridge gable allowing the air to flow up to the fridge vent.

It works.

Cheers
Tony

PS How much are you paying that poor sap working on the roof in pic 2 post 257?

That's one of my guy's ....he actually enjoys the work....he thinks I'm nuts, but he likes the finished product when it is done. He also worked on the 325LE with me during that overhaul. Regards, Bob

I am about 90% done with the roof now and it should be complete by tomorrow morning. I am planning on installing the 2 new Penguin units on Sunday so I have to move the 396XL out if the way to make room for the forklift. Should also have the upper radiator hose finished up on Saturday so maybe....just maybe I'll be able to start the 370 up !

The roof is all done, I found about 6 pinholes in the roof at various locations along the river line...,they appear to be mis drills from the factory that I exposed during sanding, I will fill them with Lapp and the appropriate stainless screws. Pushing to get the AC units on Sunday and a possible engine start. Regards, BobClick image for larger version

It's nice seeing such a comprehensive overhaul Bob, thanks for documenting it so well for us.
I'm not sure if it's inspirational or overwhelming, glad to see someone pull it off so well!

Mike, thanks for your clearly described methods in tracking down parasitic electrical loss. I lost track of that thread, but appreciate you input.

When you found your point of loss in the fan switch, was it doing that even if the switch was not in that position ?

Cheers Richard.

Yes it was Richard. I think it was reading close to a 1 amp draw. A previous owner had replaced the switch at some point and didn't have it wired correctly....I ended up running a whole new circuit for the "high"setting with an inline fuse. Problem solved. The "low" and "medium" settings run through a resistor and the high setting should be a full 12v. (That's my understanding anyway")

Well the roof air conditioners/heat pumps are on, still have a couple of odds and ends to finish up on the engine before I can start it. Progress on the shower seat Assm. It has to be done before I can reinstall the fridge. Hope to get the engine running and some of the FRP on the shower walls next weekend. It's going to be close to the wire for Memorial Day weekend.Click image for larger version

I've just finished up the missing link in the 370LE's cooling system. In Airstream's infinite wisdom they decided to install a coolant switch to turn the fans (electric) on when the temperature rose above 220. Great idea....wrong way of installing it. The factory pipe is only 1" ID, not 1 1/2" ID as is the ID of the upper radiator hose. Not only does this cause a bottleneck but then the sensor also creates another restriction. Correction fabricated and will be be installed this weekend. As if I didn't have enough going on the Detroit let loose on my tool truck Friday... I now have that halfway torn apart and will plan my angle of attack over the weekend.....no complaints though 28 years of trouble free service. Regards, BobClick image for larger version

Cooling system fix

Bob:

I need one of your modifications for my 370LE. Would you consider selling me one, now that you know what is needed?

Bob - sorry to be morbid, but I think I might buy that coach when you are six feet under. Will share further updates on the other side.

It means watch your step; Boom Sounds is an IED expert with the UK's MI6 with a license to kill.

I wouldn't worry too much; saying you'd kill a guy for his goods or wife harks back to peoples Norse/Vilking roots as many folks, especially in north east UK can trace their roots back to these marauding terrorists. It's a form of envy and admiration, not litteral.

Cheers
Tony
