345 MO 1986 aluminum wheels, why are my rear inner wheels steel when all the rest are aluminum ? can I run aluminum on the rear inner set ?

On our Timpte grain trailers we have the option of all aluminum, all steel or inner steel and outer aluminum wheels when ordering. Aluminum is for appearance (and weight saving for OTR truckers) The steels are cheaper, thus your inner steels which can't be seen. Be sure there is a gasket between the steel-aluminum bolt pattern area to prevent electrolysis. I see no problem running all alums on the inner set - if the studs are long enough to accept the thicker alums.

If it were a newer MH and you intended to put 500,000 miles on it, over the road trucks look at it that way, there could be a slight fuel savings but there is no reason to change then now.

Airstream used the steel inner wheels to keep the stud length to a minimum.
Your Spare wheel should be a steelie as well so it can go in any position.

That is good to know Rob, I figured cost was the big issue being that the Alcoa wheels were an Option.
