310 max towing capacity

Can anyone tell me the towing limitations on a classic 310. I will be upgrading the hitch to a class 3

Thanks

Hi there,

Hubby Brad says if you upgrade the hitch properly (welding proper braces and all that), your towing capacity should be about 5,000 lbs. We upgraded our hitch (actually a little better than Class III) and have towed about 4,000 lbs so far with zero issues.

Make SURE you have trailer brakes and a good, working brake controller!!! As far as we know, it is illegal to tow over 2,000 lbs without trailer brakes (and this includes flat-towed vehicles).

Good luck! We LOVE our 310!

Susan

If you still have the factory-installed hitch, you really are strictly limited to 2000# which excludes almost every "dingy" vehicle. And, if that is your situation, please check VERY carefully that the attachments to the frame are sound and solid before towing anything! Just don't ask me how I know this. DO the upgrade, then you'll be fine with most "toad" vehicles. You'll be slow up hills but that's better fuel economy and anyway, why be in a hurry? The journey IS the adventure.
