As planned, we are spending this week in Arkansas to scout out locations. The first one, DeGray Lake Resort and Campground is a fantastic park. Despite my early inquire and looking at three different weeks in October 2021, the most 50am/sewer/lakeside spots I would have been able to reserve is 14. Another 10 spots with 30 amp/no sewer were available in a different part of the park, about 3 miles away. This is not what I had in mind. I am shooting for at least 25-30 sites in the same location. Arkansas State Parks may not be the right venue for this. On Friday, we will drive up to Petit Jean SP, which may have 40 or more 30 amp/no sewer only sites available. We may have to look for private park, as Chris suggested.
Thoughts/suggestions?

I've been to pettit jean, degray lake, devils den, and crater of diamonds. All were very nice, but I'll bet you have the same trouble at all of them.

Fwiw, I'm totally fine to go a week on with 30A no sewer

Drat! Did I snooze too long.

Can you put Judy and me down on the waiting list? I can live with 30 amp no sewer for a week as lot as a shower house is available. Where/when can I drop my $40 in the pot

Mel,

No, you didn't, I just stopped the count pending further info.
Here is what I accomplished today
We visited Petit Jean SP in Arkansas and it is awesome Park. (Thanks Chris for the heads up) They had plenty of sites available, but after touring the three 30 amp/no sewer camping areas B,C and D, we found that most were not suitable for our rigs (too short and/or too slanted). I made a detailed list of the ones that would work in case this will happen:

The Park has an "overflow area" right at the lake with 22x 30 amp/water sites with sewer dump right at the entrance. I talked to Lee the Park Ranger and he will discuss it with his superiors, if we can get the entire space for 1 week in October 2021.
Slim chance, but he was very excited about the prospect of a Rally of Classic Motorhomes (I showed him some pictures) and the exposure the park would have if it should happen. He also mentioned the vicinity of Museum of Automobiles to the park https://www.museumofautos.com/
So by early this coming week, they will contact me with the decision.
This is what would change:

Once I commit to it, pending more information about cost, I would need for everyone of the 22 participant to commit to their part of the deposit AND guarantee the balance, regardless of how many days they participate. Of course they could "transfer" their share to another interested party.

AS mentioned above, I also scouted out the very close by camp ground (walking distance), which could accommodate additional participants.
Now lets wait and see what they say.
Some views of the area in question (and yes, it is lakeside)

Interested as well. It's a bit of a drive from California and there's a chance my 345 won't be restored in time, but it would be fun to meet everyone!!

YES !! We got it! Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas Park made a special effort and will allow us to reserve the entire field of 22 sites Monday Oct 18th- Sunday Oct 24th 2021

All of these sites have 30 amp and water.

The Park Ranger is working on a list of available sites in the adjacent camp grounds and I already have marked all the sites that would be suitable for big rigs we can reserve once the 22 slots are filled.
Further details about deposit, etc in a few days.

here is the rig count update:

Id like to join in on this gathering next year. Sounds like a nice park and setting to meet up and get aquanted with other classic owners.

Peter, thanks for pulling this together for us all.
Do we make the reservation and make payment to the park?
Or is it through you, Peter?

I'm happy to make the depost but do wonder about making full payment this far our? Can the total payment be done say 30 days out?

Can the address of the park be shared?

It will be so fun to get my coach out on the road again, and to see others there.

Cheers Richard

So the last big question, are we parking lined up by manufacture date, or by length?

And will we separate pointy-fronts from flat-fronts??

Great job Peter.

Glad to hear Petit Jean is going to work with us.

Looking forward to a great time with all the classics in Arkansas.

Much to discuss and parking has to be decided, as in waterfront to rear of field, first come, first serve, with consideration to early departing parties.
I am including more pictures of the campground areas A, B, C and D and the rally location.
The one draw back is the dump station at the very beginning of the field.

Please take the time to take a close look, because some of us may end up close to the dump station and I want to be sure, I pointed this out, so no one will be unhappy. The first row could also be occupied by toads to create a barrier.
Please speak up now with thoughts, concerns, considerations or alternatives. since I have not committed to this until I hear all the other details, Ranger Lee is preparing for us. This may take 2 days, then I have to make a commitment

Thanks Peter.

I would think first come first serve would work best. Think we will all have a great time no matter where we park em! I have no problem parking the wagon so that we can block some of the Dump station traffic.

If reserving in the other sites, that goes with out saying. If you reserve one of those, it's yours. My only concern, with the other camping sites, is will that have to be done directly to the park!? That could be a problem on trying to reserve as a group I think.

Yes, Chris, reserving any of the available spots in B,C and D would be completely up to the individual. They all are within walking distance, some just across the main park road. All B, C and D sites are 30 amp/water as well.
Timing would be an issue, as Ranger Lee said: Once we identify the available and suitable sites, reservations would have to be made rather sooner than later, since they will most likely all be gone in a few weeks/month.
If we firm up the 22 spots quickly, may be someone wants to step up to the plate and reserve the other available sites. All what is required is the first nights deposit, to the best of my knowledge.

I want to mention again, how awesome this park is, one of the finest I have seen in my many years of camping and traveling. It actually is located on a plateau overlooking some of Arkansas finest, has a huge Lodge, beautiful cabins, many hiking trails, boating, fishing and it has its own airport, in case you decide to fly in.
Our spot has its own beach area with tons of room for nightly gatherings and a small peninsula. Just down the road are a couple of restaurants and a specialty coffee shop for BobM

#21 goes to our good friend Richard aka Tevake. Aloha!!

So glad you decided to go for it Richard. I doubt payment needs to be in full until just before the Rally. More on this later.

Peter,

Please sign me up as the 22nd place finisher.
Bob Miller seems to think my 370 could be back on the road by then.
Fingers crossed!

Thanks for your efforts.
