1989 325LE/Air Conditioning Question ?

OK, so I understand that you can only run one air conditioning unit while plugged into 30 Amp shore power, but the owners manual states that you can run both while the 6500 watt generator is running. My misunderstanding is the rotary switch in the cabinet above the stove. It will only let you select front or rear A/C, so how do you run both of them with the generator running ???

I believe that if you have the front A/C selected with the switch above the stove set for front A/C, once you have the genset operating the rear A/C will work at that point. Somewhere in your coach, there is an automatic 'switch' (believe mine is under front dinette seat) that allows this to happen.

Of course, I haven't tried this yet, so you may need to reverse my above instructions.

Thanks for the reply Derik, I will try that on Sunday. I was thinking of upgrading the MOTORHOME to 50 amp service but I decided not to, rarely use both A/C's anyway. I will find out how that special switch works . I believe it may have something to do with the 50 amp transfer switch for the generator but I really won't know until I trace either the generator wiring or the rear A/C wiring. Getting cooler here now and I am in the process of pulling out the Duro-Therm model 901 furnace out of the back. I believe I have a bad igniter and it's easier to work on the furnace on the workbench ! Thanks for your suggestion !

bobmiller, I believe there are at least a couple, if not a few threads here on the Classic forum about wiring the rear A/C independent of the 30amp power cord for the motorhome. Seems Raveson even had purchased some sort of system that did all of that without having to go it alone.
Of course, Raveson has sold his 345 and moved onto a Prevost, but he's told me that he checks this forum when he's not behind the wheel of the Prevost, lol.

Thanks Derek, what a shame to go from a 345 to a Prevost. I think he knows what he would rather own ! The novelty of a Prevost is short lived compared to our Airstreams as your comment states he is still attached to our forums. Tell him there is a beautiful 345 for sale in Plattsburgh NY if he is interested, Regards, Bob

Derek got it right, the 30 amp leg of the generator powers the entire 30 amp circuit of the RV, plus either the front A/C or the microwave.
The 20 amp leg of the generator is a dedicated circuit to the rear A/C, regulated by the mentioned transfer switch.
Some of us have created our own 20 amp connection to the rear A/C, by tapping into the 20 amp circuit coming out of the generator and installing a plug and a receptacle. I would recommend hiring a licensed electrician, if you plan on doing that.
