I would try repairing the original Onan generator. They are simple and rugged. They run at 1800 RPM. Newer ones usually run faster and hence louder. Unless it requires major repairs I think it would be money well spent.

Having had an OEM Kohler 7000w gen, and replaced with new Cummins/onan 5000w, yes it runs a little faster but much quieter due to enclosed housing over the unit. It also consumes much less gas and some peace of mind due to this is our last-resort energy source.

Be prepared to shell out $4-5k on a new one. Maybe more nowadays

How many hours are on it would also be a deciding factor. I have an Onan propane generator on mine and it was hard to start when I first got it. Now its runs very smooth but do wish it was a diesel. Boondocking in the Keys I was going through 5 gal propane tanks every 4-5 days only running it an hour in morning and just before bed. The AC load will cause it to use more fuel.
