1986 345 Classic MH door latch replacement

New here needing current info.

Need to retro fit entire main entrance door latch (original Keeler Brass key version). Face plate measures approx. 5 7/8 x 3 5/8".
What have you used in new product (brand and product # appreciated) for exterior and interior latch assembly? Repairs not an option; need total replacement. (Exterior and internal workings completely destroyed).

Will have available afterward, the interior faceplate (3 screw version with lock lever) and handle, if anyone needs those parts.

Your original latch is most likely a Keeler (KBC) latch as found on Argosy and Classic motorhomes from around 1977 thru around 1994 or so. They were also used on Airstream trailers.

If you don't mind spending a lot of money and want to go back to original here's a Keeler Latch Assembly on ebay that is a bolt in replacement. I would consider the ebay latch to be highway robbery! I do know of several people that purchased Keeler latches on ebay for around $300 each several years ago.

The other option that I know if is there used to be a kit using a Bargman L-300 latch assembly and a replacement cover panel. It requires modification of the door and rework of the door jam to replace the striker plate. To the best of my knowledge this kit has been discontinued. I have a door from a 310 that has the Bargman assembly on it and it seems to work fine.

I'm sure other latches can be retrofit into the door but you're pretty much on your own in figuring out how to do it.

With all that being said, I do have a new in the box Bargman L-300 that I'd be willing to part with and could probably provide a few pictures of how it's installed on my 310 door.

If interested send me a PM.

Hope this helps.

Brad

I think it was $275.00 three years ago; and we all thought THAT was highway robbery.[emoji849]

Cheers

Highway robbery or not, it sure didn't stop you from paying the piper....

Tony, if you're still looking for a glove box for your Argosy I've got one for you.

I just found this Keeler replacement kit at Out of Doors Mart that replaces the old Keeler latch with a newer style latch.

I'm not sure if it's any good or not but it is an alternative.

1986 345 Classic door handle replacement needed

I was able to order the KLTKit from Out-of-Doors. On sale....looks like they have a few in stock if anyone needs one. I'll report back on how it works out.
Thanks for the help!
