There was a similar thread, but the AS motorhome was newer, see http://www.airforums.com/forums/f160...-xl-60672.html.

Yours probably also fit some production vehicle. If you post a photo, someone might recognize it.

If it's just not switching from AC to heater(a common failure in AS mohos), you can manually change it(yep, a pain) by going under the hood and tracking the cable...our junction switch from the cable is located on the passenger side, behind the breeze wall(rubber or tarpaper-like shroud)...once you find it, it's not hard to do, and when it's 100 F outside and the AC is blowing 100+ F, it seems less relevant...

Mine is screwed up too, but haven't had time to address that problem yet. Will post when I have time to look into the problem. Auto A/C used to be my area of expertise back in the day.

My 84 looks like and is reputed to be a Chrysler unit.

I think mine is an ARA unit on my 84 310. Compressor is a york aluminum upright 2 cyl and everything looks like ARA to me other than the compressor. ARA used a ton of the same compressor so everything might be original.

Here's what the one in my 345 looks like, though I'm not sure who made them. Maybe yours is similar and someone here can tell us.

That heater control unit is a Chrysler product. I salvaged several from a junk yard near Pasadena about 2 years ago for our 84 310. I believe they can be found in late 70s early 80s vans and pickups (possibly other models as well). I stocked up on them when I had the opportunity. They aren't hard to pull out of the Chrysler vehicles.

Best bet is to stop by your local salvage yard and see what they have. Take a picture with you so you can get a positive ID.

Brad

Just trying to determine if the problem is with your dash slider, or under the hood...I have owned more than a few vehicles with aesthetically reprehensive dash controls, but they worked. Our 345 has a good looking slider, but the failure is under the hood...ok, ok, the slider may NOT look good, but I guess I wasn't clear on WHERE the problem was...I do know where an inherent problem is...under the dash...'working' AND 'aesthetically appealing' are separate issues...
