Very nice! I built a metal brake for this project rather than buy one. I'm sure I may have been able to save money by buying one but it's more fun to build (and tear apart and rebuild again) the tools you need.

I know... I glad I have my online Therapists to commiserate with me. [emoji1]

Forgot to mention she did go to HF the last couple of weeks to get solar garden lights and made the mistake of asking me if I needed anything....[emoji847]

Been busy making things to move forward...

Snapped up this 3 month old Tube Roller which will help me bend some metal in the future!
Two of the dies sets were still in the plastic!
It will be getting the Swagoffroad.com mods soon.

Needed to get the bead roller done to work these panels.
Big progress today on it.

The bearing blocks were worn and sloppy so I re machined them to accept bronze shouldered bushing that should be good.

Now, I need several machines motorized in short order.
The consensus of opinion is that the best motor for the Tube Roller is the HF Pipe Threader... it's been tried and tested for years and it's a winner... don't believe me, check Utube.

So, said beast was purchased with a 20% off coupon for a reasonable price and I will use it for tube roller and bead roller, which I have not seen done.

Now, the standard method of attachment to tools is to weld the 1/2" threading die to the drive of the tool and be done. I'm cheap, and probably will want to thread some 1/2" pipe so I needed to make a very large nut... which means there will be two in my workshop! [emoji50]

This one will need to be 8 sided and large.

My solution was a 2" Length of 1" steel bar, and some 1/4" flat plate.
This is what I had after I tacked it all together.

Name:	IMG_3017.JPG
Views:	61

I then finish TiG welded it and was very pleased to see my welds are improving somewhat on steel at least!

After some clean up I had this.

Name:	IMG_3034.JPG
Views:	52
Size:	686.0 KB

I then machined a 1" bore in a piece of 2" bar and TiG welded that to the drive nut.

While the nut was cooling off from the welding... yes, I had a beer or 3, I pretty much finished the outrigger wheel polishing station.

If this makes sense to anyone else!

Just a frustrated tradesman with a plan to get our Airstream Motorhome back on the road.
She will also be upgraded, beautiful, and very unique in a tasteful way.
There is lots going on and I have a lot of ideas that I am working on.

I am a little inspired by a guy in Holland who also managed to remake his wraps in aluminum. Trying to get him to post his lovely beast here on the forums.

1984 Airstream 345 owner (Newbie) need advice!

Another busy day.
Bead Roller is now officially driven. More of that when I make Airstream parts!

Wheel polishing stand went into production mode.
Hit the convex with the DA and 240 grit to get the machine marks out then worked up to 800 before engaging warp drive on the buffer.
One down, 5 to go!
Pictures will do the talking...

Does anyone have suggestions for tire valves? I assume they are bolt in.
I also have to figure out how to setup the dually air system too. Currently I cannot even reach my inner tire valve!

If your going to all this expense, you may as well put in TPMS valve stems. They will monitor pressure and temperature. Not sure which brand/style will fit your rims.

Yes, that's the plan.
Not decided which unit yet tho.
The aftermarket senders just screw on the valve cap I think so that shouldn't be too hard. Just need valve extenders on the inner dually wheel which will be a steelie. I'm just confused on what to get.

I figured that the type with the sensor inside the wheel would give a more accurate tire temperature and be less prone to problems. I dont have that style on my AS, but they are great in my car. I have the screw on type on the AS and the batteries are always giving problems.

On my dually, the valve stems are a bit longer, and you have to be strategic when you put the wheels on. Then you use the back side of the air chuck to get the outboard tire.Click image for larger version
