Next I did a test on the pass side, using the drivers side foot...
The screw holes are not in the same places, but by using just one I was able to get a pretty good view of what I will need to adjust...

Again, Original Mirror view showing field of vision...

A little zoom..

And the new mirror...

Zoomed back...

Again a HUGE improvement in vision and safety!

Its tricky to see from the photos, but I think I am gonna add 1" to the thinkness of the pass side foot to get me outboard of the awning leg a touch more...
You can see in this pic how much it encrouches on the bodyside..

Front side view..

Here is how I mounted the plate to test...

Now I have to finish weld the Drivers side and make the passenger side foot!
A skim of bondo, and a shot of satin black for now and we will be ready!

Good job Dave!
That is/was my storage, but thats not my 345!
The view is about 3 years old by my guess, before I arrived.

They are closing it because they are building 2500 homes on that area..

Well, the Motorhome is parked outside my home...
So good to see it there!

Interested to know how you found my storage Dave...
I know some of these newer devices have a GPS co-ordinate embedded... Please share!

Ok, so the move went smoothly!
The M/H drove great, with no problems... however I added a bunch of items to my "To do list", as always!

I went over in the morning, checked all the tire pressures and for the first time added air to the front airbags... I put 70psi in... which for the record, lifted the front end about 1".

I drove from the storage to home...
Quick video of me doing about 45mph on the way... looks a lot faster I think!

Few shots of her at home...

After some lunch, the GF and I did a little loop around.
Its the first time she had been in it moving and she LOVED it, and commented it felt very smooth and safe.

Then she followed me to the new place, and the ride there drew a lot of stares.
GF said from her viewpoint it looks stunning on the road, all the lights worked good, and she loved the reflections as I drove ahead of her.
At one point we did a left turn against a light and all the people sitting at the juction turned and looks... she said SHE was grinning and felt very proud of our M/H!

I have a new "Pull thru" spot, and I think she looks happy!

Thanks Mike!
Most important thing is that it improves the view rearward to a massive extent. I can also report that it does not jiggle or vibrate that I could see.
I forgot to shoot a photo, but I carefully perimeter welded the plates for a much stiffer/stronger assembly, and just for now shot a coat of white primer on it.
The plate is about 1/8" undersize to the mirror foot, so i will strickle a coat of bondo around it to make it good, then a coat of satin black.
When I get to making the mirrors powered I will need to drill a hot thru the center of the body mount bolts PCD to put the wiring thru.

Yeah, sorry about that, it did occur to me but didnt want her distracted!

After yesterday's craziness, I was exhausted, so took a bit of a rest... Up at 5am to drive to a study course...

After a mid afternoon nap... whats up with that... must be getting old... I got on with a little project!

Mirror foot..

Bolted it to the mirror foot which I protected with tape, then screwed that to the bench.
I the first Pic you can see the "Mounting place that I will put a marker/blicker LED light on later I hope.

I put a layer of greaseproof paper under to act as a release.
Next, strickled a Bondo layer around it to bring up the surface to the level of the mirror base.
I used Marglass for the first layer as it has fibreglass in it and it sticks well and is tough!

Once it was hard, I took off the mirror and gave it a good sanding.

Then re-attached it and gave it a skim of normal Bondo and left it to cure...

Tomorrow I will smooth and sand it.

Sanded it out to match the mirror foot, and a few coats of Semi-Gloss Black for now...

Put the painted foot back on the Motorhome...

Then the Mirror...

Noticed tihat the upper part is hitting one of the riviets on the window frame... I will grind a hollow in the mount to allow it to sit better later.
Pretty happy with it for now, but I need to make a rubber gasket to go between the body and plate to stop it rubbing and corroding.

Thanks, It's not perfect, and I am planning to revisit it to put a CB antenna on the plate, drill for the wires etc.
I will try to get to the pass side foot next week.

The season will be a little later for travelling for me... Lots to do!

Oh, as I am not laying on gravel anymove I was finally able to get under and find the DOT dates on all the tires...
Fronts were replaced in 2010, and have 46-09 stamp.
Tag axle tires are 30-08, so good too.
But, as Dave spotted the drive axle tires were browning nicely...
Date stamps tell me 2003... so 9 years old and will have to be replaced.

I am leaning towards a blocked traction style tire, as we are planning mountain trips in their lifetime of usage, and I have had very bad experiences wth circumferencially grooved rib style tires even on grass they are useless...
Opinions requested?

And a Happy Fathers Day to all you Dads!

Steve,
I really like the idea of blocked traction tires for the drive axle. Wondering though if there would be any more tire 'noise' from them than the standard tires.
I'm in the same boat as you with OLD tires. No long-distance driving until the $ are in the checking account for 8 new tires. Steering are 9 years old, drive axle and tage are all 11 years old. Just not gonna take a chance tearing up aluminum, or worse, interior bits when a tread comes crashing through the wheel wells. It's ok with me that my 'dream Airstream' is in my driveway not moving much, just seems to be more of a problem with others, lol. Tell them to mind their own f$*Y#$g business.....
Thanks, Derek

Looking around for tires that fit my thoughts...
Not into price/quality discussion yet, just purely looking at functionality for a traction tire...
I like the look of the Hercules H-702 tire.
It has a block tread in the center and a solid shoulder...
Click on the tire pic to see closer what I mean...
Something like this would work pretty well I think...

Hercules H-702 Tire from

Also I liked the look of the Goodyear G647 RSS... which is actually M+S rated...

That one looks interesting too...

Ok, I had to go over today to pickup some stuff and took a few mins to finally fit and mount the replacement shower extractor fan.
The original had seized and when I switched tried to use it on my maiden voyage back from KS. The fan got so hot it melted the fan... and then blew the fuse.
This was the result..

The new fan had to be cut down and adapted to the original mounts, but now looks like this, and works good:
