How about a tutorial on how to get the dash cover off? I need to get under mine and could use some help.

I removed my side panels by the seats, took out the screws at the windshield (three broke off), cluster screws, you may have two screws that attach the sides of the dash to the body (my unit did not have them) and remove the glove box, you have some screws at the bottom area of the dash that need removed. I cut my dash at the bottom next to the driver side by the glove box which won't be seen when put back together and removed some rivets around glove box area. Cutting the dash housing allowed me to lift the cover off without removing my cluster. I had two handles that I took off to slide the dash over them and disconnect the vent ducts. If you change out duct for the vents I used four six foot pieces and radiator clamps to hold them in place. It was a lot easier with a helper. Mine was in good shape with six loose wires found and no bad rust under dash. A first for me and big thanks to Kenneth for all the help he gave me. Hope this helps you and others. Holler if you need anything else.

Here are a few pics of screw locations mine had, I apologize I did have two screws on the D/S end that I used a hack saw blade to cut them and where I cut my dash. I did not take pics of the screws at the windshield be careful I snapped three of mine off trying to get loose. I will fill in the cut area with ABS slurry when finished.

1983 310 Overhead Lights

Has anyone worked on their interior lights on their 310 that are mounted in the overhead cabinets. I reworked my overhead storage and installed LED bulbs in the lights. When I turn the switch to low on the switch by the door it blew the fuse that feeds the blue wire. Pulled the switch out and the PO had a brown/white wire connected to the bottom terminal on the switch. disconnected B/W wire and the lights work on low but not on high. The lights over the sink work when you turn on high but only three bulbs come on and when you switch to low same thing the other three lights come on. Attached a diagram of the schematic on my switches #20,21,22 and terminals 17,18,19 from my manual and I can't find a resistor that might actuate the high side of the lights and unable to tell where the B/W wire on terminal 17 runs to see what is causing the wire to short out. If anyone knows how the wires go on the switch by the door let me know tired of blowing fuses while troubleshooting. This and the new wiper switch that others have installed is all I like on the inside to complete.

Hey Cole. I replaced my interior lights that are built into the cabinets. Not sure I can help with your shorting issues but I was able to inspect how those lights are wired and the “low/high” function. My rig is an ‘82. That switch at the door is an “on/on” sw. It simply activates two different feeds up to the lights, no resistors or anything. One feed goes to the set of “low” bulbs and the other feed goes to the set of high bulbs. The difference in the brightness is merely two different wattage bulbs. One set is a higher wattage than the other set. Pretty simple setup but cumbersome with LOTS of wire used . I made cover panels for where the original lenses were located and then installed LED puck lighting with a remote control dimmer.

If you want pictures I can see what I have. Let me know.

I would appreciate pics mayco at your convenience, Mine had all the same type bulbs so I just disconnected the Br/W wire that was popping fuses. I installed all new LED bulbs and that helped. Would love to put some updated lights in. Thanks for responding trying to finish up and hope to get to use my 310 soon.

I could only find a few of the finished project Cole. Somewhere I’ve got pics with the lenses all pulled apart and in the middle of changing to its current condition. Click image for larger version

Those panels that the puck lights are in are just 1/4” luan plywood, covered in headliner type foam and then finished with the same material we used for the couch and other trim pieces. In the kitchen I covered the plywood with aluminum.

Like the look of the lights. After I played with ABS slurry and repaired all my cracks the wife decided to have me make luan forms that she covered in leatherette to hide some of the ABS cabinet faces. Your type of design would blend in well with her brown decor. Pic of what she did to ours. Sorry for the sideways pic.

Currently working on my belt line trim on the 310 and wanted to ask if anyone came up with a good lubricant that will help the 1/2" belt trim slide around the body and not drag in the grooves as it is pulled. Any help will be appreciated.

Don't insert and pull, it will shrink badly. If you want to use a lubricant use a foamy glass cleaner. Insert the bottom and then using a dull flat head screw driver to slide in the top. Work a couple feet at a time. Thats the fast way.

Slow is insert bottom and work in the top inches at a time. Always verify that you didn't pull it away from the end cap
