Also in ‘82 and maybe ‘83, they were using real plywood rather than the wafer board.

My apologies the plywood Airstream had put around the transmission offset was 1/2" plywood and the rest is 5/8", thank goodness. The pic shows the offset in the floor. Trying to get a couple small leaks repaired before putting hardwood down. Has anyone swapped their chairs in the 310 for something that would work more efficient. Thanks for all the info.

Hey,
Concerning your 1/4 inch plastic insert stuff. I bought some, it came in a dark brown. Looks black. But shrunk, big time. The problem is, it only comes in 50 ft rolls. I installed it, pushed it in hard, because it does expand in the summer heat. It was not that. Warm out , maybe 55 degrees. But now, I got a 6 inch gap, and it pulled out of its riveted cover.
The problem with the 50 ft rolls is this my 325 has two of these bands so I think you need 5 50 ft rolls, or. You wind up splicing it, thus the gap.
As far as color goes, it's really close to the black. You and I may notice the difference, but the general public may not.
Also. I'm not sure if the stuff I got is of quality. Maybe it shrinks because of a cheap plastic. Don t know. I'd get the black fron AS factory if you can. I may go that way . I'm not to impressed with the shrinkage of this brown stuff. DJ

Contacted Airstream today about the 1/4" black insert, she gave me a part # 201652-01 and told me to call Out of Doors Mart. Called and talked to the parts fellow and he said that number is a dark gray and that Airstream does not make the black anymore even though some places advertise it as black but adds that it is a dark gray color. I guess I will try the dark gray and it is sold in 50' or by the foot. He said it looked pretty good on the older motorhomes. OODM did not know of any black 1/4" that was available.

Need a little help on some leaks I have found since I took the carpet out. Does anyone know if Airstream put the belly pan over the body panels after the body was sit down on the floor like they did my Airstream Sovereigns. The leaks are in line with the lower belt line. All other seams have been caulked. Will caulk the top of the belt trim but wanted to ask about belly wrap installation.

Yes, they did in their brilliance. You can either pull the lower trim and seal it with vulkem, reinstall and add more sealant on the top or just clean and seal the top with trempro 635

That's what I figured, I will clean it and caulk the belt trim like I have done on the other seams. I want to use it and not have to rebuild it before enjoying. Thanks so much. Have to wait till the storms leave town.

Did you by chance get a part number from ODM on the dark gray insert Cole? I would like to get their price, it’s a pricey little project I know that..

Belt Line Leak
Removed the D/S lower belt line trim and found how it is put together, attached some pics of the different open seams where water can enter at the plywood level. They need caulked then replace the belt line trim. It was nasty behind the trim so it would probably help to caulk the top seam once installed to help with streaks from mud when it rains.

Can someone tell me if their are fasteners behind the woodgrain piece on my P/S door panel. Have the rivets removed but seems to be fastened somewhere behind the woodgrain and won't come loose. Please help

Probably rivets and possibly staples. When I removed those panels from a 345 they were a b!tch to get off.

Got a big problem I had completed Saturday on removing the rusted window screws and replaced with #4 S/S screws as bobmiller recommended. Soaked screws two days then took a small chisel and tapped the screws on all for sides and they came right out. It will now be easier to remove the windows. I know someone has discussed the schlegel weather stripping on the Forums but which is the best one, the seal with metal piece or the one that VTS sells that does not have the metal but only comes in 8'. Does anybody else carry it in longer lengths.

If you use the 8' felt type, place the add on piece on the stationary window side and use some black 3M weatherstripping to seal it on the 2 ends

There are rivets behind the wood trim piece. 8-10 on each side. When removing my panels, I damaged the wood trim to the point it’s not re-usable. It had a very strong adhesive holding them on, don’t know how one would remove the side panel without removing the wood trim

I got my panel off after I contacted another forum member My middle woodgrain popped off using a thin putty knife it has little tabs about 3" from the edges, on the two small ones I took the putty knife and worked it around the edges and it popped off and mine had been glued as well.

Could someone explain to me how the aux heater under my 310 couch works, took the couch out to install hardwood and had read the Aux Heater Rebuild thread and was noticing some parts were not on mine, I have a duct coming off my Suburban gas heater and connects to a flange behind the aux heater and blows out the vent near the floor, I have not found a valve that operates water flow from a cable. Took pics of how mine is set up and where the rubber hoses run inside the cabinet and ties into the bottom corners of the W/H then splits off to two copper lines that run on the wall to rubber hoses again and goes thru the corner of the floor thru my frame to somewhere I have not found yet. Wanted to clean it up if it still works.

So...Airstream realized that your front cab heater is not enough to heat the whole RV while driving. The solution was a secondary heater using engine coolant as the heat source. The aux heat switch is on the dash “high/low” for the fan speed. Our coolant line splits and heats the hot water tank as well (heat exchanger option).

Cole, I don’t have one on my 82 but I believe it operates just like a second heater core. The rubber lines are connected to your engine coolant lines.
