Wheels and Tires

I have purchased a 75 26ft and I need to get new tires for the front. It has 8.75R16.5 on the front can I put 16 inch rims and tires on instead. What do I get the rims off of and what size tire. Is there a special hole spacing on the rims.

Could I find rims at a wrecking yard and are they tubeless.

Sorry for all the questions but I am new the the Argosy and it is my first motor home

Thanks

You must use trailer rims that are rated to carry the loads needed. It is unlikely that a junk yard rim will be rated or the right fit. But more than this... Why would you trust a rim from a junkyard when you do not know its history, and you can be fairly sure it was in a wreck at some point?

Oh! Ah. My bad. I was going by your profile, and your MoHo matches the year and length of your Argosy

Shepherd,

The 8 lug bolt pattern for the Chevy 16" and 16.5" wheels are the same. We took the 16" wheels from a 1981 Chevy 1-ton dually and put them on our 1974 20' Argosy motorhome that originally had the 16.5" wheels.

You can get 16" tires that have about the same circumference as the 16.5" tires so your speedometer will read the same.

Bottom line is you should be able to find wheels off of just about any late 70s or 80s Chevy 1-ton truck or van and use them on your motorhome.

Hope this helps.

Brad
