What Vehicle am I buying parts for?

Hi Y'all,

I just bought a 1978 Argosy 28' with the 454 7.4L and I'm not sure exactly what vehicle I'm supposed to put into search boxes on auto parts websites. P30? C20? Suburban? I'd like to make sure these parts fit before I buy them!

Many thanks,

David

David,

Welcome to Airforums!

Your Argosy is sitting on a GM P30 chassis. When looking for parts the P30 is the key. On sites like Rockauto they will list parts as for P30 or Motorhome Chassis. The Motorhome Chassis is the P30 Chassis with some specific upgrades for motorhomes.

For brakes, if you have front disc and rear drum brakes then your brakes are JB8. I think (but could be wrong) if you have discs front and rear then you have JB9 brakes.

The key to finding the right parts is reading all the little details and see how they compare to what is on your chassis!

Brad

Happy hunting David

I believe the critical activity is to determine if the part comes from that original chassis or if Airstream removed/replaced/altered.

Brakes/suspension/steering/engine/transmission are typically 'standard'. Radiators (and so heater hoses), anything to do with electrics and dash etc, you are in the lap of the Airstream Gods (using the words of one or our dear departed friends from the forum).

Awesome thank you. Someone ripped out all the smog and emissions pieces and I live in California, so.... Yeah. Well, they made a ton of trucks, I guess? Fortunately my google-fu is pretty decent. Wish me luck!
