Suggestions needed: '78 Argosy tires

I have a 78 Argosy motorhome. It needs tires. Currently has 8R 19.5 F tires and was told I could get 245 70 19's or 225 70 19, but they were concerned the space between the tires on the rear could be an issue and there is no way to tell until they mount the tires. Has anyone had this experience? Recommendations?

Thanks,

Dave

Just get 8R 19.5's. There are many brands available. I run Good Years on mine.

I need to get to the motorhome to obtain the correct specs, but I had a problem with my FRONT tires fitting in the well. The first set I installed were 1/4" too large and rubbed on the inside of the wheel well on turning. I took it back to Les Schwab and they replaced it with another set. Both were 8R 19.5's but had 5/16" OD difference between the two. So I can't speak for the rears but there is a definite need to fit the front on my '78. BTW, Les Schwab was cool about it, replacing the tires after 300 miles with a straight swap. Wasn't really their fault, you had to turn pretty far to get the tire to hit the well. I have forgotten the specs as I said but I seem to recall them saying that the cheaper the tire the larger it tended to be. I saw the sheet that had the OD specs and was surprised at the variety.

In my opinion stick with a good brand of 8R 19.5 tires. The 225 70R 19.5 are much shorter (all most 2 inches) and fatter. The M/H was designed to ride on 8Rs.
