Search for 'Yellow Submarine' Argosy MH

I have had one picture of this unit in my archives for several years but I have never seen other pictures or talk about the unit. Does anyone know any more about this unit or have more pictures?

The Yellow Submarine is a 1977 Argosy 20' motor home.

Fred, I've never seen that Argosy before. Interesting color scheme.

What I'm really curious about though is what those two pvc tubes are on roof ?

Are they for looks or for storage pr what? If for storage how the heck do you get on the roof to access them

Thanks for posting the picture!

Brad

I think they are to small for torpedoes, unless they are baby torpedoes

Now they could be missile launchers but they looked more like snorkels to me, raise them both and you have air going in one and coming out the other

After all it is a gasoline powered and not nuclear powered

Man I was trippin' on some bad mushrooms that weekend!

Gotta love those VW vans though!

Thanks Peter. I have contacted the site owner for more information. The paint job is obviously patterned after the Beatles Yellow Submarine album cover! I am just so young that the album was before my time!

I updated the URL to the 'Yelo Sub' page. I don't know how to edit the previous post. The EDIT button does not appear.

Well, in the town where I was born, lived a man who sailed to sea, and he told us of his life... I'll see if I can get in touch with him for you. He probably knows something about this one.

The editing window expires after about 15 minutes. this was put in place a while back after some people stirred up trouble, then edited their posts.

I guess this thread may be a few years old, but I just found it, That is (or was) my Yelo Sub.
It is a 77 20' Argosy that I took to many festivals in NY & Mass. The only reason I do not have it now is 20' was to small for a family of 3, so I sold it to a vendor out of NH, I believe he has it in Florida. Now I have a 27' 84 Excella MH
Today is my last full day of work, tomorrow I am retired and if there is still interest, I can find more photos and info about it from my old web sites.

By all means post more info and pictures about the Yelo Sub! I'm definitely interested in it's history and how it came to be

Hope your retirement is more relaxing than mine Wayne.

I retired 10th June, have flown just on 30,000miles, and run around like crazy every day since.

I think I need to find another job just to have a rest!

Martin,
That is the nature of retirement. It has been almost five years and I truly don't know how I had time to go to work.

You guys are starting to scare me! I'm 5 to 7 years away from retirement and I'm so darn busy right now it's scary

If retirement is worse I may just continue working....

On the retirement topic, it is sort of like being on a roller coaster for 30+ years and now that the ride has stopped, the ground feels a little shaky under my feet. I still am getting up before sunrise but now there is no schedule other than what I set, and today was starting the work that I have been putting off for too many years.
I also resurrected my old Yelo Sub website inside of my Projects page.
It is a bit rough and may not work with smart phones but here is the link:
http://theouterlimits.ws/projects/YeloSub/

So a brief history of the Yelo Sub. I bought it in 2001 and used it for music festivals. I would play videos and host bands all running off of the generator in the Yelo Sub.
It was a 1977 20' Argosy that came in the normal colors of tan & brown. That was a bit to bland for festivals so my first adventure, I brought some tempera paints and this is what happened:

Although that was fun, I wanted something a bit more coherent for my theme and it turned to this:

Most of the rest is in the web pages along with more photos.
For those wondering about the torpedo tubes on top, when I would do shows, I had a 18x20' canopy and I stashed the poles in the tubes. I took them off late because it made the thing top heavy and sharp corners got dicey, especially since I had it overloaded with audio & video gear.
Someone in the other thread asked about the bumpers. To get the special holographic effects I bought some self stick foil online and it had a real nice effect on the curved bumper. I also used some in the trim molding slot all the way around the vehicle. I just used some mini-blind slats and stuck the film to them.
The down side is that they did not fare well in the sun and they would need to be replaced every few years.
That is all for now, I need to get back to yard work

Wayne, thanks for sharing the history of the Yelo Sub!

I'm sure you have a lot of fond memories from all of your travels with it
