Replacing Argosy MH galvanized endcaps. . .

Hypothetically speaking, couldn't one replace the galvanized front and rear "caps" on an Argosy MH with Airstream aluminum sections? If so, what would the proper "donor" Airstream(s) be? Any ideas on the availabilty and pricing on said sections?

It would probably be easier and MUUUUUUCH cheaper to just get the whole Airstream.

besides, it really was an Airstream you wanted right?

I don't think there are the supports needed to switch out the steel end caps for aluminum segments. Aluminum is not nearly as rigid as the formed steel...

Well, show me a 20' Airstream Motorhome and I'll buy one, doncha know. . .

I'll probably end up painting the endcaps silver; j'es a few guys talkin' out loud. . .

i like the steel caps.....they certainly take bumps better. as i recall the earliest as mohos were also made with steel caps and may have been produced in the same versailles plant........i'm sure someone will correct this if i'm wrong.....but i think versailles was on the titles and id badge for the earliest units.

anyway another option would be to cover the steel caps with alum skin and rivets if it's the look you are after....i know dis similar metals/galvanic issues but not if a small insulating layer is used or the rivet holes are coated....

then there is still the issue of painted/unpainted.....as used a silver for a year that looks like bare skin from a distance...aluminum skin that is.

The first couple of years' production of Airstream motor homes had the steel end caps. The first year they looked just like an Argosy motor home, the second year, they were painted silver. By the third year they had aluminum segments on the ends.
So, if you really, really, REALLY wanted it to look like an Airstream motor home, you could paint the thing silver, and install some Airstream badges on it. It would definitely be a one of a kind.
See how long it takes before someone figures out what you did...
