Hmmmm better explain a little better before I get in trouble at home.
One of the benefits of a booming up-fitting market in UK/EU is a huge range of companies making furniture and fittings for campers.
One such company is called Woodys Wagons and they make a very nice pull out gaucho. This is metal framed and either works as a single bed (without pulling out) or a queen. But also the top hinges to give a huge amount of storage space.
This means, if Denise wants to go to bed early she has the 'private' bunk in the back, or if we go to be together we have the queen, or if I am left up watching TV then the gaucho stays as a single.

Clever solution and btw, Martin, here they are called "snore Rooms" and they are widespread in the upscale homes around here. I have been outfitting my trailers/MH's with snore rooms for a long time, incl 2 Television sets. Makes for a happy marriage..

Hmmm....I will try including the word 'upscale' when describing the concept to Denise, however Japanese style pod sleeping seems more appropriate!

That slide out bed is very nice!!
Probably, I need to modify the original bed in my argosy.
(Because I added a fuel filler hose and a fuel pump maintenance hatch at around there)
I'll look it up on the internet!
Thank you for giving great information!
Anyway, I like "Japanese style pod sleeping" (a.k.a. capsule hotels)

Bella is being rebuilt for our retirement, we hope to keep her for the next 20 years. Once complete and we have toured a little, she is getting shipped to Europe because that is where we will retire to.
However that doesn't mean we will have done everything we want to do, and seen everything we want to see in the US so when we/Bella ship out, we plan to leave a 'presence' here (holiday home, RV lot with a cabana, etc) and Peanut is part of that. We need a place to park Peanut, that we can fly into, that can be a base, but that we can tour from.
So how did poor Brad get roped into this craziness? Part of selling up and moving back to Europe, is selling up. So Brad is allowing us to park Peanut there whilst we sell our place in MA and while we decide where our base is going to be. If Peanut is at his place and he is coming to the Get Together but Penn Wood wont allow tents, why not take Peanut????
Does that make more sense?
I also figured it will be easier to sell Peanut in a few years time if it is repaired (using more parts from the third Argosy) and in routine use; we don't plan to do anything other than keep it on the road and use it when we are here.
|
Well......back in March 2016 that happened.
Flash forward to today and the start of the thread (sort of) is still the plan/actually happened, however, after a total change of plan ("we don't plan to do anything other than keep it on the road" ha ha ha!) and occupying Brad's workshop/time for far too long, Peanut's new back end is getting close to re-appearing into daylight (Brad says by tomorrow, but I'm not holding him to that). A little like a pupa emerging from a chrysalis.

It's time for a quick update on Peanut. Ernie has been busy lately installing the rub rail. Following Peter's advice we are using 5/32" x 1/2" aluminum rivets in place of the original 1/8" rivets. We are also dabbing each rivet in Trempro 635 to provide a seal, hopefully to avoid future water leaks.
Only a few small pieces yet to install.
Bonus points to the first person to spot the problem in this photo
Brad

Leaving the entrance door open, goes over the windows not allowing you to see out.
No generator door.
No upper clearance lights on front and rear.

Nope, although they are valid points
The front bumper overriders are mounted upside down. I pointed that out to Ernie and he said he would flip them over.

Its obvious that the front wrap does not line up with the rear lower rubrail location. When can i get my bonus points and what do they do?

Peter, you didn't follow directions. The photo in question was the front view. No bonus points for you
As to your point about the failure of the rub rail to line up correctly, that's the result of using a later Classic banana wrap on an Argosy. In this case the rub rail will be angled to follow the wrap line.
I do have a question for you. The ends of the rub rails have those aluminum end caps that were riveted in place. What length should those rivets be? I will also have to uses 5/32" rivets for this as well due to the holes being in really poor condition. For a lot of them the 1/8" rivets wouldn't work.
Brad

I prefer to use Olympics to fasten the end caps, makes for a real nice look plus the head is plenty big to cover the holes. Sometimes is a little hard to get them to engage properly, due to the combined thickness, but its mostly decorative with little holding strength required. Also note that I painted the part of the endcap to match the rubrail insert.

Thanks, Olympic rivets it is. I wonder when Airstream went from one hole to two holes on those cap pieces?

Brad and Ernie, have been working on adding the additional 24in window this week.
This window is being added as it sits above the new sink location, but also because it allows a view to the outside from the east-west 'bunk' that is going into the rear (replacing the bathroom).
Start-current photo for reference
Brad has also done a test fit of the replacement Thule steps (to get rid of the flakey Airstream units). The version we are using is 'manual' (ie spring assisted) but is identical to the motorized version if I want to add the motor and power supply later.

It has been a lot of hassle to install (ribs, power lines etc in the way).
I think Brad will be glad to see the back of Peanut!
